LinkedIn Is Illegally Searching Your Computer

Microsoft is running one of the largest corporate espionage operations in modern history. Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm. The user is never asked. Never told. LinkedIn’s privacy policy does not mention it. Because LinkedIn knows each user’s real name, employer, and job title, it is not searching anonymous visitors. It is searching identified people at identified companies. Millions of companies. Every day. All over the world.

@typeoff @stabi_berlin I always found the Egyptian theme of the Berthold Hebrew specimen an odd choice, and I wondered to what extent it was a result of reusing existing material.
@letterror I may look like a hack, but I am actually just an under-specified standard.
Site of Fort Kamloops, at the confluence of the Thompson and North Thompson Rivers, in the territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc nation.
Ooh! A new Tedeschi Trucks album, just in time for my road trip. The super hero artwork by comic artist Marc Sasso is hilarious.

My longterm plan for the coming weeks was to fly to the UK, attend the WAVE conference at Cambridge, meet up with Fiona in London to do some research together, see friends and family, then go to Leiden and Den Haag, meet more friends and this year’s KABK students, visit the Louwman car museum, and after take a road trip through Belgium and into France, spending Easter at Bruges, and making pilgrimages to the Menin Gate and the Canadian memorial at Vimy. I was really looking forward to it.

Thanks to the new UK passport requirements for dual citizens, which I wasn’t able to fulfil in time for the trip, I have had to cancel it all. Instead, I will be getting into my car and heading towards the Rockies. I will spend Easter at Calgary, celebrated Bruges of the West. 😛

@Luke Here in Canada, I found credit unions were more likely to offer ethical investment funds than banks (at one bank, I was effectively shown the door when I asked about ethical options). I suspect the same would be the case in the US.

@bobwertz I haven’t watched the race yet, but I presume Mercedes and Ferrari are still the only contenders at this stage. It’s going to be really interesting to watch the development of the other cars over the season.

I’ll be excited if both Audis manage to finish the race.

@bw I have a couple of similar apps for Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic and Latin Rite calendars, and finding a reliable source for the content always seems to have been the big issue in their development.

@bw Very nice.

Any plans to add troparia, kontakia, prokeimenon verses, etc.?
