For 20 years Mozilla has developed one of, if not the most useful tools that web developers have.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/blog/mdn-turns-20/

Congratulations to the MDN team on such an awesome milestone. I'm happy that we've played some small part in its history and I'm excited to see how it continues to be central to every web developers job.

Celebrating 20 years of MDN | MDN Blog

MDN turns 20! Let's look at how we started, how MDN became the most trusted resource for web developers, the impact it's had on the open web, and yes, there's cake, too.

MDN Web Docs
OvercastData.com just got a lot more flexible! Mario Torres Jr and I just launched support for custom locations. Now anywhere there is nearby data is supported. For example, you can find the average weather in Barcelona at https://www.overcastdata.com/en/custom-location?lat=41.3874&lon=2.1686

I collected over 1,000 data points (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IOJa0-vUQVRxHEFc03lCVryf8hbNYOQSsqcdaQkux5A/edit?usp=sharing) to see how fast the copper golems can be and summarized my findings in a video:

TL;DR / TL;DW: copper golems aren't quite fast enough to keep up with a basic automatic moss farm, but maybe that's a good thing? What do you think? If someone goes to the effort of building a redstone item sorter, should it be faster than a copper golem?

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) Specification (Third Edition) is now a W3C Recommendation

This document describes PNG, an extensible file format for the lossless, portable, well-compressed storage of static and animated raster images. PNG provides a patent-free replacement for GIF and can also replace many common uses of TIFF.

The Third Edition adds Animated PNG and High Dynamic Range (HDR) PNG.

There were layoffs at MS yesterday and 3 #Python core devs from the Faster CPython team were caught in them. If you know of any jobs, please send them their way (they kind of know Python, CPython, and its internals well 😉):

I wrote another deep dive into some of the math behind the weather. This one explains how we calculate average first and last frost dates. https://www.overcastdata.com/en/blog/when-to-plant-mathematics-of-frost-dates/

I'm quite proud of this one and am excited to dive deeper into some questions this raises in future posts.

P.S. I made some accompanying #pixelart again. This one has Data protecting some seedlings from frost.

Currently crying some tears of joy and of released pressure/stress:
One of the large repositories in Germany started safeguarding datasets from #NOAA, officially.

PANGAEA is actively working to rescue data from the United States. With… | Frank Oliver Glöckner

PANGAEA is actively working to rescue data from the United States. With the recent announcement that numerous datasets - such as those from NOAA - are scheduled for decommissioning in May, PANGAEA has opened its archive to help safeguard these valuable resources. If you become aware of any endangered datasets, please don't hesitate to contact us. We ❤️ data!

I've been learning more D3 recently, and I figured the best (or at least most fun) way to learn it, was to make some generative art! 🎨

This was one of the ways that helped me to understand #RStats better because using functions for things they weren't designed for helps you learn how they break 🛠️

So here's my first attempt!

Found https://dice-simulator.com/ today after searching for a physics based dice simulator. Worked great and was easily customizable. Thanks @GeoDanila for putting it together!
