How many studies do researchers need to do before the threat of LLMs is taken seriously? This technology *might* have some useful niche applications, but widespread deployment will be a disaster for humanity.

This shit is an existential hazard, and not in the way the AI companies love to talk about. It's not going to take over the world like Skynet, it's a cognitohazard that turns anyone that interacts with it into an idiot.

Adults Lose Skills to AI. Children Never Build Them.

Discussions of cognitive offloading often miss a critical distinction: What AI does to a 45-year-old's brain is categorically different from what it does to a 14-year-old's.

A huge part of the problem here is the "responsible use" narrative. The arrogant, 40-something white man in a professional setting thinks he has a Fortress-Brain full of Man Logic but he does not and he is being sycophantically groomed by the most effective fabrication machine ever invented

Since when was disallowing a system that operates on both plagiarism and fabrication a "hardline" position to hold when your ENTIRE PROFESSION sells itself as being against those 2 things??? That a huge proportion of journalists are relying on a lie machine suggests WE'RE NOT HARDLINE ENOUGH?!
Yeah, sure, the height and speed of the tsunami of bullshit have both grown by an order of magnitude. Not great!!! But that means we should double down on aggressively, effortfully attacking anything that worsens that further. That means **OPPOSING** a software system that by design will always lie

No, my #adblocker is preventing your #ADs from loading. The fact that the REST of your page refuses to load if the ads dont load, well that sounds like a YOU problem.

A fresh problem with #AI is what might be called Artificial Gullibility.

According to a BlueSky poster, an academic who was ruled guilty of plagiarism has waged an extensive astroturfing campaign to rewrite the record. The goal was probably to game conventional search engines, but the texts have now been ingested by Google's AI. Google's "AI Overview” presents her (apparently false) version of events, backing it with the supposed authority of Google and “AI”.

The return of ReceptioGate to the news is a useful moment to think about the role AI is having in creating truth for a lot of internet users. I posted this update - the clear plagiarism verdict against Rossi - on another platform… /1 [contains quote post or other embedded content]

A billionaire can get what they want with one donation to a political party. The rest of us must fight for years to get even the most basic rights recognised. Money destroys democracy, more than any other cause. The first step towards a better world is to stop the rich buying political outcomes.
Wie dringend die Scham die Seiten wechseln muss, sieht man ja schon daran, dass so jemand wie Merz offenbar rein gar keine besitzt.
