When Merrick Garland approved the MAL search warrant, critics thought he had at last found a spine, but apparently it was illusory. By his nature, Garland is cautious to a fault, and his appointment of a SC at this late point in DOJ's investigations, apparently responding to Trump's announced 2024 campaign, is unnecessary and looks cowardly. Garland now seems focused primarily on insulating himself from the fray.
@jeffjarvis What do you think will be the breaking point for the first news org that sets up Masto relationship even as a backup? It's starting to look really obvious over there in birdland that mainstream news orgs and most of their reporters/anchors have elected to put on blinders and wait for the lights to go out. Haven't run every likely name, but kudos to Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow who are on Masto now.

@adamdavidson Yes, having trouble calibrating after many months of active daily worry. Surprised this evening to notice a project left half-done six months ago. Suddenly didn't seem insurmountable. Two hours later it was finished. Even if this election victory is just a breather from whatever the next threat is, it's a good time to regain personal focus and be thankful.
