I enjoyed @sboots’s essay on becoming a “generative AI vegetarian”, and for a few reasons: it’s a great read, first and foremost, but also my GOODNESS is this well-sourced. Sean pulls together many, many threads here; always grateful for a map like this.

Generative AI vegetarianism

Hello, it’s me: I’m a generative AI vegetarian. The tech industry is convinced this is the future; I don’t want any of it, full stop. Why choose generative AI vegetarianism? Just like real-life vegetarianism, there are a bunch of good reasons.

@asymco did you also see some elements of the Saab 900 instruments in this?
@tvdv happy birthday Thjis!

@beep at least it was in another room, not before your eyes yet invisible to your brain. Which happens to me more than it should.

(Good to be reading you again after a break)

@tvdv grinding by hand can be considered exercise though, and depending on the amount you grind you could absolutely add it to your day’s activities
I got one a few months ago to slow down my coffee consumption: it works.
@kevinrenskers @brentsimmons Your disappointment is understandable, but also feels a bit naive—it may sound condescending, sorry—of Apple’s operations. They were able to become the company you loved by manufacturing most of their products in China (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_China). I don’t think anyone lost his or her soul this year more than they did 30 years ago, it has just become more obvious, closer to home. The best thing to do is to get rid of dictators or aspiring ones. Business will adapt. 💪

@Sketch you’re welcome. Pass on that there are a lot of things working seamlessly too thanks to them!

If I’m not mistaken, Shift-G displays the document’s grid, the equivalent of ^ G on the Mac. What I was referring to is the fine lines appearing at around 600% showing the pixel distances, wether or not the grid is displayed.

@Sketch
4. Make it possible to keep the pages list accessible. Information density should be the same as in the app or a better overview.
6. Navigation in documents should be closer to the app’s experience : placement, font size of text elements.

Thank you!

@Sketch 3 ex æquo. Make the pages / components / prototypes picker a segmented control instead of a selector to make it clear where you are and that these other places actually exist, which for viewers who don’t use the app is not that obvious.
3 ex æquo. Make the “new version available” more obvious. Maybe adding an accented frame around the preview area, or a watermark text sticky centred.
