Looking for ways to better support open hardware despite the whirling miasma of consumer electronics

Hey all, I'm moving instances again. My time on the <big instance> was long in the tooth, and I think the spirit of this place is better on smaller instances.

You can find me shortly on https://xn--xxa.computer/

I truly hope this doesn't generate spam (maybe additional follow requests? Sorry!)

if I weren't in such a lightly-burned-out state, I think i'd want to focus more on designing and building more small PCBA. Fewer large projects that don't get finished, more quick iteration to build up a really solid and natural process.

#dwarffortress Great, now a small army of Agitated Giant Capybaras aggroed my militia and baited them into combat in a river too deep to swim in.

Maybe they were all cocky from years of successfully battling off angry birds?

It triggered an unfortunate chain of militia members drowning in the river, and then hapless peasants ignoring my request to stay inside and drowning as they attempt to retrieve the bodies.

This save is cursed.

#dwarffortress Did Zach and Tarn add bad-ass action movie one-liners to the game, or has the avian onslaught just turned my fortress into bored-but-hardened assassins?

#dwarffortress year 3: The attacks from agitated birds have continued non-stop. 4 dwarven children are likely scarred for life by the constant death, and refuse to feel happy despite all of the golden toys I throw at them.

The ghost of a woodcutter that was swept away by one of the birds has come back to haunt the fortress. Masons have been quickly dispatched to create a makeshift memorial. Plans are being made to bring everything inside

The days in the run up to the holidays are always a very low-bandwidth time for me personally, so in the words of master shake:

I guess this weekend has become a "Catch up on Advent of Code" weekend...

That day 11 really stalled me out

Hilarious #DwarfFortress bug that made blue jays and ostriches go aggro on everyone has a fix pushed out today:

From Tanya over on the Fowl Site:

> we legit thought that all of the reports of angry bluejays and ostriches destroying people in Dwarf Fortress was just folks sharing funny stories.
> nope, Tarn glanced at it and noticed fishing was set to agitate local wildlife way too much. classic. (fix pushed)

#dwarffortress has warmly welcomed me back by spawning an Agitated Giant Peregrine Falcon that is terrorizing my fortress and picking my dwarves off one by one.

And I thought I was picking a peaceful corner of the world!

Yet another new rust thing for me is keeping track of when a function is handing me an iterator as opposed to a list directly.

I think it reveals how often in other languages i'd tend to pass around a full list or use list comprehensions that end up allocating a whole new list for the temporary computation.

It'll be a good exercise to see how often I can do work on the iterator alone before .collect()ing it. At least it's obvious when you're being lazy with rust!
