@schultzter Yeah I've been using it a lot more and I've started to actually really like it. Feel free to catch me over there! I probably won't be using mastodon all that much anymore. Trying to focus energy on a handful of platforms instead of every single one lol
@zstg lol they're not it's just from an older post that I made

#askfedi #fediverse

Which instances aren’t planning on blocking #threads if #meta ever comes to the fediverse or however it works? I love the instance I’m on but I’ve sold my soul and started using threads a lot more because, well.. there are just more people on there. And honestly from what I can tell they seem to be a similar crowd as to what I’ve seen over here on #mastodon. Albeit a little less knowledgeable about the #open #internet but hey.

I just think it’s time to move instances so I wanted to ask if anybody knew about this. Appreciate any help in advance.

@greg I actually wanted to do this for my 2 year old as well. I literally have one of those same exact MacBook Airs. So what did you do, just install Fedora or another distro onto the MacBook and then install the sugar DE?

I may have to try Ubuntu because the last time I tried to put both Debian and Fedora or that old MacBook - I couldn’t connect to WiFi. Maybe I’ll have to hook it up with an ethernet cable to get the correct drivers installed.

Curious to know what steps you took!

@73ms @GottaLaff yeah I think it was posted sometime back in the summer. The last I heard of it was that it’ll be blocked. I get it - it’s an instance surrounding security/privacy with many advocates for owning your data and that whole mindset.

I push for privacy/security and all that stuff too but lately I’ve just started to think “does it really matter?” I just read an article that Signal is funded by the government, tor is used to put many of its users into a “pool” of sorts as ‘possible criminals’ since the user is using tor in the first place and it’s just starting to feel like it’s just not worth the energy anymore to keep up on the privacy side of things. And that honestly hurts me to say but it’s how I’ve been feeling lately. 😂

@73ms @GottaLaff yeah I’ve heard about that. I wonder how that will pan out though because from what I’ve seen a lot of instances are going to be blocking Meta/threads once they do that. The owner of the instance I’m on put a poll out awhile ago to see what peoples thoughts were and the majority voted to block them. I even voted for that back then but now I’m feeling I may have to move to an instance where they don’t block Meta. At least whenever Meta decides to add threads to the fediverse. Now that I’ve been creating content over on YouTube, just because it’s fun and something I’ve always wanted to do, of course I want to share my stuff with other people and to have people discover my content. I just feel like trying to build a community/following with mastodon is like pulling teeth. At least over on threads it’s “mainstream” enough that people are over there.

And plus all my favorite photographers/filmmakers are never going to leave Twitter/Threads/IG for mastodon lol

@GottaLaff exactly why I’ve recently started to migrate over to #threads as well. I love mastodon and the instance that I’m apart of but people just aren’t here and it doesn’t look like they’re going to come over anytime soon.
Anyone got an invite to #bluesky ? Just want to check it out and see how it compares.
