That was an interesting article. I haven't been reading the local-ish news, but maybe I'll make more of an effort.
Deer over-population is a problem, and something needs to be done about it. There's a lack of natural predators, and I don't think that anyone wants coyotes, bears, or other large predators in the parks. (Currently, we are the large predators in the parks.)
Hunting is abhorrent to many, and I'm pretty sympathetic to that point of view.
But unfortunately, it's time to take practical, concrete action.
This archery hunting season is a short-term solution. Hopefully, it's the beginning of a longer-term solution to deer overpopulation. The fertility program mentioned should be pursued by the city. The communities should be taking responsibility by not feeding the deer.
There was a link in the article to the City of Pittsburgh site. Including it here:
Let’s see if the Fediverse works for this kind of stuff:
I’m looking for a teacher of classical guitar. Has to be San Francisco. Prefer someone who specializes, too. (Not just someone in a band who also owns a nylon-string guitar and can play Malageña.)
DMs welcome.
Good morning Mastodon (or whatever time it is for you). We are one day away from the one year anniversary of the Twitter Lockout, November 18, 2022. An amazing day in internet history on which a quarter million new users joined Mastodon. Perhaps it's a good moment to share thoughts or reflections about open social media over this last tumultuous year as well as hopes or predictions for our future.
There's a short video which a lot of new people have found useful, you might want to share it if you're trying to explain to someone what Mastodon is:
