Let’s see if the Fediverse works for this kind of stuff:

I’m looking for a teacher of classical guitar. Has to be San Francisco. Prefer someone who specializes, too. (Not just someone in a band who also owns a nylon-string guitar and can play Malageña.)

DMs welcome.

Ok, that worked much better than I’d expected! Thanks to all who replied, and I hope I got back in touch w/ all personally who had suggestions. I plan on giving a recital a year from now, and you will all be invited.
@RobSF sent a message to a friend who may know.
@RobSF
I'd recommend my brother, but he's in Pocatello, ID (Idaho State). Good luck with tour search.
@RobSF Flamenco? Folk? Electric? Steel? Nylon? The Fine Arts College should have a list for you. Also, Contact the symphony and see who they have. Several orchestral/symphony players also teach their instruments.
@Catawu
Mainly interested in only classical for instruction, though I’m fiddling around with other styles on my own. I’m now swamped with suggestions. The Federation has come through!
@RobSF
I don't have any personal knowledge of him, but Marc Teicholz has a great reputation.

Another possibility would be Lyle Sheffler. He studied at Peabody and the San Francisco Conservatory.

Lyle Sheffler - Classical Guitarist

Lyle Sheffler has established himself as a much sought after classical guitarist in the Bay Area and beyond. Acclaimed for his artistry and creative interpretations, Lyle has a sound that is remarkably personal and uniquely his. As a graduate of both the prestigious Peabody Conservatory and San Francisco Conservatory, he is highly praised by audiences and fellow classical guitarists alike.

@doug
Thanks so much for both of these, Doug! I’m getting a little deluged with suggestions now. A very nice problem to have!

@RobSF check out community mission school in the Mission or the Richmond. They enroll quarterly and they have classes in everything and you can even join ensembles. It also comes out cheaper than private music teachers here, with similar or better quality

@skinnylatte
This looks really interesting. A group class might be a good way for me to start. Though I do want some face to face help with posture and position. I’ve given myself tendonitis trying to learn on my own, and w/ physical therapy am just coming out of it. Anyway, thanks so much for this suggestion!

@RobSF Los Gatos is probably too far away from SF, but Ben tolerated me for a while.

Nice guy and loved his guitar.

@markd A little far, yeah, but thanks for pointing him out all the same.
@RobSF I have a friend who lives in the area who plays in the Santa Cruz Symphony. I think he knows some great people so he's going to see what he can send over. I'll fire over whatever he sends and hopefully it helps
