Father, husband, Democrat, lawyer. Not always in that order. A good life in the U.S. Midwest in Blue City, in Red State.

The big divide in the GOP is DeSantis wants to be Orban and Trump wants to be Putin. But Orban wants to be Putin. So what I'm saying, there's no divide.

I see some folks asking for a quote style button on #Mastodon. Let’s not do that.

Quote tweeting on #Twitter incentivized snark, promoted outrage & rewarded cruelty. It brought out our worst by further gamifying interactions in a kind of race for 🔁 & ❤️ - which are delightfully less obvious here.

I love that Mastodon has a community feel & hope it stays that way.

Just how does Santa deliver millions of gifts to children all around the world?

Christmas magic, perhaps? Or maybe, Ol’ St. Nick knows a bit about physics.

If wormholes exist, he just might be able to use them like a tunnel through space-time, giving himself the ability to traverse vast distances in a single night.

Now, would flying through wormholes spoil the story? Personally, I think a Santa who understands astrophysics would be even more magical.

Merry #Christmas to all who celebrate!

@lolgop Israel plays an important part in the end times beliefs of evangelicals. They don't care about Jews one whit, other than the need to ultimately convert them. Thus, support of Israel is their go to defense when accused of antisemitism. Trump believes in nothing other than himself, so he is just echoing the "news" sources that he listens to in his isolation.

Oh no! Inflation is abating! Quick, call Larry Summers, Jason Furman, CRFB, and AEI—we need new excuses for why fiscal, tax, and monetary policy should be calibrated to make the poor poorer and the rich richer!

“Early gift for the White House: an absolutely perfect PCE inflation print, with core at 2% (!) target. War is over, if you want it. Many, including myself, were worried about divergence with CPI; and PCE is what the Fed actually watches. But that didn't happen. Let's dig in. /1”

Henrietta Lacks was a poor, Black, young mother diagnosed cervical cancer in 1951. When her cells were collected w/o consent, scientists saw they multiplied fast.

“HeLa” cells changed #science. They’re used globally to study viruses, drugs, hormones, genes, diseases & develop vaccines. Lacks passed away at 31 w no recognition.

Rebecca Skloot’s beautiful book about her life & legacy is changing that. Now her statue will replace Robert E. Lee in VA. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/20/us/henrietta-lacks-statue-roanoke-virginia.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare #history #HistoryRemix

A Statue of Henrietta Lacks Will Replace a Monument to Robert E. Lee

The statue, scheduled to be erected next fall in Roanoke, Va., is part of a local project to recognize Black history in community spaces.

The US Supreme Court lost its minimal remaining credibility when it decided Bush v. Gore over 20 years ago. Even without Dobbs, the court has moved to lawlessness. Granting a stay on Title 42 is one of the best examples. This Trump program is set to expire on its own terms and yet Roberts extended it in a one-judge order to mess with the Biden Administration.

This is not law.

Good morning. ICYMI, House Dems released Trump's tax returns & revealed that the IRS had failed to audit Trump his 1st 2 years in office - despite a rule requiring it to audit presidents - & only started 1 when they asked for his tax/audit data in 2019. /1 https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/12/20/us/trump-taxes-news#trump-tax-returns-irs-audit

Whoever he’d pick would be as bad as he is but no one will listen to that person as closely. So at least there’s that.

We are all going to be pissed when Kushner ends up as the CEO of Twitter.

The best job market of our lifetime and the Fed sees that as a problem that can only be solved with millions of layoffs.

The fed acknowledges that inflation in goods is slowing or even reversing, that their housing numbers are basically wrong, and that we've had slowing overall inflation, and yet they're still willing to induce a recession, why? wages are growing "too fast" https://www.grid.news/story/economy/2022/12/15/why-does-good-news-about-the-economy-sound-bad-to-the-fed-the-complicated-reason-why-could-push-us-into-a-recession/

Why does good news about the economy sound bad to the Fed? The complicated reason why could push us into a recession.

If economic indicators are strong, why is the conventional wisdom that a recession is likely next year? It all comes down to inflation and the Federal Reserve's response to it.
