For work I do cloud cyber research and engineering (AWS, Azure, GCP).

For myself I self-host a bunch of stuff and have un-lasting interests from all over the place.

as you can tell by my username, I like Termux. I'm not related to the dev team in any way.

This is an alt-account of mine, where I'll focus on following and posting about cybersecurity, privacy, piracy, cloud, FOSS, and all that stuff.

I heard this string will bring me good fortune so imma put it here:

Archeologists will look back at this and will be confused and will start hypothesizing about a once available dislike button on youtube.

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but don't say you do cloud stuff, when IRL you're only doing web and ddos protection?

just interviewed to a job that described itself as a Cloud IR team.
During the zoom interview I learned that not only do they not do any cloud stuff, but that if an incident gets out of the bands of a web-page, then it's out of their responsibility and they won't take care of that.
Is that even a thing? Am I to be expected to call upon an IR team, only for them to be like - "so then the attacker got to your web server with admin rights, uhm so you have someone to take care of that, right? chao!"

bahhhh

Am I about to discover that every file format is just a pretty zip?

Learned this about APK, now MS Office files are too just zipped in some way.

Is there only one type of file in this world and the rest are just zips??

Do people just not notice that when they share or copy a link from google chrome that it changes to
hxxps[:]//share[.]google/randomstring
that'd only then redirect to the actual site?

I suddenly get these shortened links everywhere and it's annoying.
I use wheregoes[.]com to not click the surveillance link directly, but goddamm do people not care?

I heard (need to verify this) that it's doing this even when people copy the link from the address bar (in addition to using the share button).

Google probably uses this to collect data both on the sharer, but also on me.

How does one audit a home network reasonably? Thinking of setting up some self hosted stuff that may involve internet ingress.
I can DMZ a machine, but it's an i-dont-know-what-i-dont-know situation. Are firewall rules enough? How much should I actually be worrying about someone getting access to my local network segments?

Some org started rehiring junior devs because AI companies keep increasing their token costs. It is becoming cheaper to hire humans again to handle basic tasks, like aligning a button on screen, fixing typos or even performing PHP+MySQL coding.

You just have to wait until the AI bubble bursts or the VC money dries up. Approx 40% to 50% of AI data centers planned for 2026 in the U.S. are likely to be delayed or canceled as banks and VCs are refusing to provide further financing πŸ˜‚
