was reminded of this old banger of a tweet so i'm reposting it here on mastodon after *checks watch* 9 years

A visual representation of how high 2:1 isometric blocks should be

#PixelArt #GameDev

@shinyshinken Though i suppose some of them are learning not to do that, these days. And just let me play the game I was pitched from the start.

Tho perhaps that's a biased view from what I used to pick up vs what I pick up these days, and getting better at filtering for my own tastes?

@shinyshinken And then frequently taking ages to get thru the introductory sequence, or to make it extremely front-loaded, or rather different from the rest of the experience ("talk to these 40 NPCs before we let you do the thing you came for")

Instead of just getting me into the regular bit of the game as quickly as possible. Long enough for a complete indie experience, in some cases.

Disrespectful really is the right word, isn't it?

@shinyshinken Alongside all this, I'm also turned off by their propensity to have mandatory minigames in a game that's not *about* that, and not what I signed on for. Whether or not the minigame might be fun in another context. It feels similarly disrespectful.

And the price point. $60-70 for something I *might* like enough to actually somehow finish the 40h of probably-a-slog-towards-the-middle? I'd rather play several indie games.

Hey, if anyone ever worried about the safe zones of a Mastodon banner image, I got you covered. Pink areas are obscured by the mobile website, blue are obscured by the desktop website. The second one is a transparent PNG that you can just paste in as a new layer in Photoshop, Krita, CSP, etc, at the maximum 1500x500 pixels.

Edit: Made a couple new versions to add some new apps and the Akkoma web interface.

Also, I'm getting the impression that some folks are thinking that this was meant to be added to a banner to mark it as a safe space for trans folks. That's not what I intended, but it's a really cool idea!

@mcc my Mac experience: “I want something to start at login but none of the six poorly-documented ways are working.”

Windows: “I want this to not run at launch but it isn’t using any of the ten ways I know about”

So you may have noticed that the Twitter login of https://movetodon.org/ is not working at the moment.

According to twitter, the app “has violated Twitter Rules and policies”. I can’t tell much more at the moment since the email they mention never arrived in my inbox.
