@sarahnicolosi @couts honestly I just swapped to hive instead

Hi all! It’s the Sunday before US Thanksgiving so it is time for the official reminder that you can ask me ANYTHING no matter how silly about Thanksgiving cooking and I will help you out.

🚨🚨 🚨 Also if you are roasting a whole turkey from frozen IT IS TIME TO DEFROST🚨🚨🚨

@tfardet okay but I’m not on web? I’m on mobile. So still inaccessible.

Once again. I have no problem with content warnings. My problem isn’t with content warnings OR instances.

And every time you frame the answer or show me the creator of Mastodon’s answer to the content warning issue you’re telling me that you don’t understand what the issue is.

The issue is that there’s no way for me to FREELY BE WHO I AM IN PUBLIC ON #MASTODON WITHOUT HAVING TO HIDE MYSELF.

SAYING I HAVE TO HIDE THINGS ABOUT MYSELF FOR A POPULATION’S COMFORT IS ITSELF PROBLEMATIC.

The extra labor one has to do as a Black person IS the problem.

Having to move to an instance where people understand by default IS the issue.

White people don’t have to find an instance where it’s okay to talk about their daily lives of being white.

Just realized I can’t find my own unlisted posts! So #DisabledBlackTalk will have to do until I find a solution…

Now we gotta get Warnock through the Georgia special election so we have a buffer against Manchin/Sinema.

I'm writing letters to voters in Georgia through Vote Forward to get out the vote -- and you can, too! Sign up here! https://votefwd.org/campaigns

Vote Forward

Vote Forward volunteers send heartfelt handwritten letters to unregistered and low-propensity voters encouraging them to participate in our democracy. The letters have been shown to significantly boost voter turnout.

@tfardet I have a type of dyslexia that means I can’t manually re-type text from an image well. So it’s very frustrating when people treat me like it’s my responsibility to caption images with alt text versus the responsibility of the platform I’m on to include OCR tools, because somehow my disability doesn’t count and makes me ableist.
If I understand the disagreement correctly, there are people who have been here want CWs for political topics and newcomers think that the practice is excessive. Personally, I think that we have to remember that the personal is necessarily political because many marginalized people are automatically politicized by their identities. If you're tired of reading about it, I get it but think about the people who live it every day.
@couts people can curate their own account viewing to filter out things they don’t wish to see. Telling marginalized people that we need to “content warn” our own existence because it makes someone else uncomfortable is not the sign of a healthy community and is one of multiple big reasons I don’t really feel like Mastodon is going to be a safe community for me.
@Mrfunkedude @couts for some, being told our existence is political and belongs behind a warning can be an emotional drain, and I’m not “warning” for my life experience just to make someone else feel comfortable; that’s an unethical ask.
