@sigrid Hello! Is the source for the updated Uxn for Android (April 10, 2023) available somewhere? The 100r sourcehut branch appears to be over a year old.
I've been reminded that my wastingmoves.com sometimes ends up in a reload loop so that first link might be no good. I'm trying to resolve it, but am not sure how long it might take.
For anyone curious, here's the current "spec" for my raster device: http://wastingmoves.com/raster_device.html, this is where most of the magic happens: https://codeberg.org/tbsp/takalaki/src/branch/main/src/devices/screen.c#L131, and this is the uxntal source for the video posted above: https://codeberg.org/tbsp/takalaki/src/branch/main/projects/examples/devices/raster.tal. I've become distracted by other things, and may not be able to return to this soon, but would love to hear feedback about this or other display extensions. 😊

A Uxn raster device that builds on top of the Varvara screen device

A little video showing off some of the features of my experimental "raster" extension device building on the screen of the #uxn varvara VM. The device adds two scrolled tile layers stacked with the existing fg/bg layers (adjustable priority) and a new vector which is evaluated at the start of every line during screen redraw, allowing for fun raster effects.

You know what? I think Oquonie is complete.

For the past two months @rek and I ported a game of ours for its 10th years anniversary since iOS updates broke it beyond repair.

It has been rewritten to target a virtual machine, which should(hopefully) help us keeping it playable. In the next few days I'll release a document that explains how to write an emulator to run the game.

Oquonie by Rek & Devine

Oquonie is a textless adventure across an intertwined megastructure.

itch.io

Finishing up the last details in the Oquonie game, specifically the save/load file format handling.

The game is designed to run on a VM, and will be distributed with a manual that describes exactly how to write an emulator to run the 700kb rom - Our hope is that if platforms change, or if someone want to run it on their own unique system, they need only port the emulator, so the game may survive bit rot.

The entire toolchain including assemblers/linters is hosted on that same virtual machine.

Capitalism has convinced you RSS is antiquated. The real reason it's fading is because it doesn't have ads and tracking. You going to tell me the news article is truly better on a browser with ads than on a little program you can open any time, on or offline?

Hi @ivory. Welcome to the fediverse. Your Tweetbot app is popular on Twitter, so no wonder there’s plenty of interest about your forthcoming Mastodon app here.

One thing you need to take into account. Blind people belong here on Mastodon, and we will advocate strongly to preserve that sense of belonging. Many sighted people do the right thing and add alt text to their images. Many of those same people gently remind those who don’t, or decline to boost the toots of those who don’t. So it was disappointing to see that your introductory toot contained an image without Alt text. Still, we were all new here once and it can be a learning experience. Hopefully you’ll be mindful of the culture and add Alt text to images in future.

To that end, please involve some blind testers as part of your alpha process. The best time to integrate #accessibility into a new project is as it is being built. Tweetbot has had accessibility challenges over the years. Please learn from those, embrace the inclusion that is part of mastodon’s ethos, and don’t shut us out. Many of us want you to succeed and are willing to help.

Good luck, and thanks for reading.

@arca0 i've spent the last year or so building little programs for an 8-bit stack machine called #uxn.

it's been a fun, inspiring group of folks influenced by retro computing, smalltech, permacomputing, sustainability, and non-commercial currents.

Well, a few people asked about tipping or donating for my fonts so what the heck.

Maybe I'll get a coffee out of it once a month.
