PreCheck:

*88% of travelers move through PreCheck in less than 5 minutes. (Clear didn't provide a number for comparison.)

*$78 every 5 years

*Requires application, in-person interview, background check and fingerprints.

*Part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Clear:

*$189 per year.

*Requires online sign-up, as well as an iris and thumbprint scan.

*Private company

NEW: Young adults told us making friends IRL is getting harder. Apps like Bumble BFF and Meetup fill the gap during bouts of loneliness. But actively seeking friends as an adult still comes with shame and stigma, they say.

While dating apps made the jump from niche to normal, online friend-making has lagged behind. Why is it normal, and even noble, to hunt for romance but weird to hunt for friends?

@jeromechoo this is a great way to put it. often when we say "social media" we really mean "life" like, life is hard and complicated and feels like too much sometimes! we're all figuring it out.
