It took me until today and bin Laden's 2002 letter to America going viral from people sympathizing to realize that Bush saying "They hate us because we love freedom" actually had some grounding in reality.
Of course there were other grievances, but the main things bin Laden lists as wanting Americans to do:
- Convert to Islam
- Institute Sharia law rather than "inventing your own laws as you will and desire"
- Prohibit our freedoms of loaning money at interest, production/trading/use of all intoxicants (incl. alcohol), gambling, and acts of immorality (being gay, having sex outside of marriage.)
These demands are emphasized and listed in great detail before "advice" to stop supporting Israel, end support of India in Kashmir, end support of the Philippines against Moro rebels, and stop supporting Russia against Chechnya - all of which are combined into a single sentence.
Although U.S. action abroad may have motivated many, stopping it doesn't seem like a primary demand or concern for OBL in this letter.
- It is public record that my father has admitted to the press that he abused me as a child.
- My father has publicly admitted sending private investigators to stalk me.
- My father has publicly defended his abuse and stalking of me in my replies on Twitter. Twitter ignored my reports of him, and so I blocked him.
- Twitter now wants to protect the right of my self-confessed abusive father to stalk me on the platform and show up below every tweet I made.
I left Twitter a few weeks ago after Elon restored someone posting child exploitation videos. Seriously considering deleting my account permanently now.
