Consider cars. Up to about the 1970s or 1980s, it was common for people to fix their own car. (Common != everyone.) In recent years, it's much harder, but usually possible, if difficult and expensive. The difference is one of degree. (Car manufacturers are working hard to make it impossible, if only to ruin this example.)

Ho dato una rinfrescatina alla grafica del sito, è ancora brutto ma un po' meno di prima 🤣 (vi ricordo che è scritto tutto a mano in HTML e CSS senza neanche una riga di JS, siate clementi, è un lavoraccio infame).

The web feels so broken. Subscription and login gates at every corner. Using Google on a phone now means being periodically quizzed on which of the buttons to press to *not* be redirected to the app store. Opening an Instagram link casually throws up a browser alert dialog because it tries to automatically open an unsupported URL scheme, presumably their own app, and apparently everyone is fine with it. I'm proud that Mastodon never locks public content behind login walls.
