OK, one more update! The foam nose strip on one of my older Auras was falling off, so I removed it and taped it to the inside of the singer’s mask with a little two-sided tape. Hard to say without direct measurement, but the seal feels superior to a “real” respirator.

Other interesting platform-specific tidbits:

On Mastodon people were most likely to share, while on LinkedIn they were least likely to.

More people hit the heart button on Threads, but Bluesky was tops for comments.

Bottom line:

One of the main reasons I use social media is to provide accurate + relevant climate info, so I use analyses like this to help inform where best to spend my time. These days, engagement is:

* on its way up on LinkedIn + Bluesky
* holding steady on Mastodon
* headed down on Threads, Facebook + X

I hope this is of interest - feel free to comment and share your own experiences!

🇳🇿New Zealand COVID-19 inquiry endorses abandonment of elimination strategy.

"That any public health measures to stop the spread of COVID and save lives must be “balanced” against the need to protect “the economy.” This is the dominant theme throughout the commission’s report, which is designed to ensure that in any future pandemic the response is subordinated entirely to the profit interests of the corporate and financial elite."

New Zealand COVID-19 inquiry endorses abandonment of elimination strategy

The Royal Commission of Inquiry presents the Labour government’s abandonment of New Zealand’s COVID-19 elimination strategy, which has led to thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of hospitalisations, as inevitable.

Don’t throw out your Auras if the straps break! Commercially available mask braces hold them in place just fine.

Interpretation of internal representation seems to be a major problem with generative AI. #aihype

https://news.mit.edu/2024/generative-ai-lacks-coherent-world-understanding-1105

Despite its impressive output, generative AI doesn’t have a coherent understanding of the world

Large language models can achieve incredible performance on some tasks without having internalized a coherent model of the world or the rules that govern it, MIT researchers find. This means these models are likely to fail unexpectedly if they are deployed in situations where the environment or task slightly changes.

Do people fully appreciate what an incredible thing Biden has done here? Not only is he preventing billions of dollars from going into the hands of greedy loan sharks and inappropriate loans, but he's freeing up enormous amounts of money for young, and not so young, people to spend on their families, communities and their futures.

Not sure where your endorsement came from, but immunosuppression is now an accepted effect of COViD-19. #covid
