Happy to report that @sweneg and I received an international collaboration grant from Vinnova (a Swedish public funding agency), which will allow me to spend 4-6 weeks visiting Gothenburg University over the next year, to work on the project "Foraging Games: Exploring generative AI systems to tackle high-dimensional game design spaces".

A few friends and I are now organizing our own graphics programming conference in Europe: https://www.graphicsprogrammingconference.nl/

Think: Game/realtime graphics, rendering, just in Europe, with less flying and cheaper hotels, to meet the same folks you'd meet in San Francisco otherwise :)

If you're interested to speak (and want to submit a talk), reach out to the contact email provided there or DM me. Same for sponsorship opportunities.

Retoots/boosts are appreciated!

The Graphics Programming Conference is a conference for graphics programmers, from student to industry veteran, taking place in November in Europe.

The UK's Department for Education published our report on pupils sharing their opinions on school spaces through digital technology methods.

@amberfirefly @nebogeo sorry to hear that, the places I worked at, for lecturers and senior lecturers did not do that as long as we're were not on a research only pathway. If you had zero grant income consistently you were made to teach lots, but none of those people were made redundant. Additionally, there is also currently similar to the US the trend to have teaching only faculty or balanced pathways where workload shifts with grant income.
@amberfirefly @nebogeo the only slight differences are that they also provide a community and that universities pay a salary, so they rent you out to more students if your grants don't cover everything. So especially in the UK they provide a form of stability, something I never had from a UK landlord ;)
@joris sounds very cool, especially the mix of campaign mode and shorter gameplay. Some of my favorite games just take forever which then means you play them less due to the time it takes.
@joris really nice game title, do you any chance have more information on the prototypes, Nürnberg is sadly a bit too far right now.
