Mastodon would be much better if it wouldn't feel so sluggish/slow with the refresh and dynamic reloading of the timeline when you scroll through new posts. Is that a general problem, or a server specific issue?

Thanks for all the tips! Was surprised to get so much useful input.   I ended up getting some 3mm PVC Hard foam board (https://www.thyssenkrupp-plastics.de/de/schuetzen-und-heimwerken/protex-light.html), mainly because I saw it in my local hardware store and it seemed to have all the attributes I was looking for: very light, rigid, flexible but also extremely easy to cut/work with using just a utility knife.
