Teaching was my first love. Packets were my second.

I make classes to teach people how to defend themselves against hackers. In my spare time, I teach college students to compete in cybersecurity competitions, or try to take back my home automation from the cloud.

@rysiek this email thread with a dozen people in cc could have been the informed decision of one person whose labour had not been de-skilled and de-professionalized
Life is short. Don't let people make you feel bad about drinking coffee with lots of milk and sugar. Or fruity cocktails. Or "shitty" beers according to the beer snobs. Or eating your steak well done and covered in ketchup. Or whatever else it is you like doing that literally doesn't impact someone else in the slightest.
More of this. Unions can and should take a stand against Israel’s Genocide and Apartheid policies.

Wyoming is such a pretty state. That's an abandoned Ranger's cabin from 1914.

Anybody have on-hand that article that was roughly; "I love vibe coding! I'm making tons being called in to clean up after it..."?

'I'm being paid to fix issues caused by AI'

Businesses that rush to use AI to write content or computer code, often have to pay humans to fix it.

Today we visited a waterfall that was worth the hike. Latourell Falls in the Columbia River gorge, Oregon, US.

Lots of great photo opportunities with gorgeous natural frames. I'll share only the empty frames here but I'll tell you that me and my brother looked great in our photos, too.
@dillyd I’d like to see more. 😊
@dillyd I've heard that trees like in the third picture here, were made to bend like that by American Indians to mark trails. Some people are trying to document them before the those trees are gone.
@rayckeith that's super interesting! Do you happen to have any references about it? (No worries if not)

@dillyd @rayckeith I was going to comment the same thing!

The Texas Historic Tree Coalition says their mission of protecting and maintaining the trees is becoming more urgent year by year.

@rayckeith thanks for the link! This is so cool.
@rayckeith
So now that we know to look for them, we saw a couple more today.
@dillyd What a good pic! 😎 How long did you wait to take that shot?
@ColesStreetPothole
Lucky timing, we happened to arrive when the sun was there 🌞
@dillyd I always like that hike. 🥰
@mangotable
It's a winner. My family have been here for years but this was our first time at this hike, and it's decided: from now on, they'll take all their visitors here
@dillyd If you haven’t done it, Horsetail and then up to Ponytail falls (pictured) is also very nice, but there is a fair elevation gain on switchbacks. The trail behind the falls is really fun.
@mangotable that's really good to know, thanks! I probably won't get a chance on this trip, but I'll tell my brother who lives near
@dillyd for all my visits to the greater area, I haven't spent any time up the Columbia. Looks like that needs to change
Nice pix. And looks like a great day!
@colo_lee thanks! Yes I definitely recommend hiking in the area. There are so many great spots.
I was lucky weather wise. A trip to the Pacific Northwest without any rain!
What are some of your other favorite things in the greater area?
@dillyd the kind of waterfall worth training under
@dillyd
👏👏👏🫵
All the yes!!
@dillyd I can't believe you hit the sun coming up so perfectly, it's really lovely. And I just learned about bent tree markers, thanks 😊
@Star12Mt it was a very cool hike!
@dillyd One of my faves! I’m a huge fan of columnar basalt!
@Devils_Rancher oh then you'll like this upshot taken from behind the lower falls
@dillyd Oh wow! We used to go every couple of years when I visited my dad but he’s just not that mobile anymore. I would love to get a hotel in Hood River for a week and see some of the ones that are more of a hike.
@Devils_Rancher my parents aren't so mobile anymore either. It's a great place to spend a week and go hiking every day
@dillyd About 15 years ago, we went around to the east side and hiked up to the foot of Elliot glacier. It seemed like I could see the curve of the earth from up there. There’s a road that winds up to the treeline- the hike was steep but not too far.
@Devils_Rancher
That's something I haven't done and would love to do
@dillyd Hope you can! I felt like I could see Idaho all the way to the east. Cloud Cap campground was where the trailhead was. https://maps.app.goo.gl/GLYGPN1nNex68Kcn8?g_st=ipc

@Devils_Rancher @dillyd Oh!!! All my life I wanted to see basalt columns. Lucky you!
@cobalt123 @Devils_Rancher
This is the place to see them, for sure
