i live in the foggy sunset district. love the foghorns at night. happy when the light peeks through.
For context, this is one of my favorite climate graphs, showing 800,000 years of atmospheric CO2, including the massive run-up over the past century. We're now around 420 parts per million (ppm), more than anytime in 800,000 years (actually more than anytime in the past 5 million years) and completely outside the natural ups and downs in the record. This is the driver of the current #climate crisis.
oops, i mean @feditips.
@kazwhitehouse thanks! @fedi.tips was kind enough to respond & let me know that. who knew!

@feditips I'm a newbie. I replied to someone's post, but don't know how to see my reply & don't even know if she saw it!

I also don't know how to see others' replies to the posts I read on my home screen - including yours.

I tried googling for answers but just get directed to tip sheets none of which explain "replying to posts."

A number of people have asked what I could have done better. In particular, I should have set the first post in the thread to public and the rest of the posts as unlisted.

Here's a fantastic explainer from @djnavarro via @flodebarre:

(It's worth reading the entire thing. I learned a ton.)

Notes from a data witch - Everything I know about Mastodon

A hastily written guide for data science folks trying to navigate the fediverse.

@ErinSandersNP ok i'm officially confused. i responded to your comment above, but now i can't find my response. 😞 it must be visible somewhere around here!
Here's the one silver lining in all of the #twittermigration . It's forcing many of us who have been stubborn (aka me) in expanding our avenues of science communication. It won't be easy or smooth, but I think that it's a good way for us to take inventory of what really works/does not work.
RT @erinbiba
I absolutely hate the silos in Mastadon. I need to join my science, disability, and Jewish communities. I am made up of all of these things. It is not possible for me to pick just one. Siloing loses one of the best parts of Twitter. That all the communities here INTERACT
@ErinSandersNP I signed up on dot social inadvertently, knowing zero about servers. but now i feel a bit cut off from my medtwitter peeps (i'm an NP) & am not sure how to find my climate doom peeps, not to mention the random others who are in neither of these groups. i'm still pretty lost in this mastodon maze, though. maybe the silo-ing is more apparent than real. also - this is my very first toot 😎
Fellow #twitter ex-pats: if you're looking for an iOS app, I recommend going with the "official" app (see screenshot) as a starting point for 3 reasons:
🔸 It works
🔸 Privacy policy most closely aligned with that of the Mastodon ecosystem
🔸 It actually looks and functions a lot like the native Twitter iOS app, which I've found helpful during this #twittermigration
