Fellow #twitter ex-pats: if you're looking for an iOS app, I recommend going with the "official" app (see screenshot) as a starting point for 3 reasons:
🔸 It works
🔸 Privacy policy most closely aligned with that of the Mastodon ecosystem
🔸 It actually looks and functions a lot like the native Twitter iOS app, which I've found helpful during this #twittermigration

Anyone else wish QTs (Quote Toots) were a thing? Maybe it's just me.

Loving this about Mastodon: enabling "Display all categories" in the Notifications page offers a granular breakdown.

I'm especially fond of the "Updates from people you follow" tab.

There's at least one upside to confusion over which Mastodon server to join: as we (#twitter ex-pats) rebuild our social graphs and boost content from our local servers, the "Home" feed quickly evolves into a curated sampling of the most engaging content from across the #fediverse

Good morning to everyone except petulant billionaires

With #twitter going down in flames, I wonder how legacy media will source ideas for poorly-researched click-bait content
OK, @RollingStone. Whatever you say 🙄
I wrote a piece for The Atlantic several years ago on the problems with Twitter’s verification system and some of the core issues with the blue checkmark binary hierarchy https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2019/06/instagram-and-twitter-should-eliminate-verification/592351/ #technology #tech #twitterefugee #twitter #journalism #journalist #media #newsnerds
Instagram Verified Accounts: The System Is Broken

Verification scams are rampant on social media. What if that’s because the whole system is broken?

I think after watching the last week play out, I’ve decided there are absolutely no circumstances where I would get into self-driving Tesla.

The whole idea of the town square is that it belongs to the town. No one should be able to buy it. And honestly, they can’t.

Twitter isn’t really the town square, any more than Facebook is or MySpace was.

We are the town square. It goes where we go. No one can buy that.
