Apologies for reduced interaction lately - due to ill health.

In life, possessions are not what is important. Friendships and family are. Shared experiences are. Helping others achieve their potential. Making the world a better place for everyone. Stop voting for Politicians who only care about 'stuff' like gold wallpaper.

(Who I am isn't important - I'm not here to promote myself)

Life is an education, and I hope to learn from many of the wonderful people here.

Billions of people will die because contemporary law enforcement refuses to stop a bunch of simple-minded politicians and "economists". Who insist that forcing people into poverty and to fight over money creates prosperity.

The total failure of our justice system.

It needs to be said

The author of this article "visited four continents to write a global history of concentration camps. This facility’s purpose fits the classic model: mass civilian detention without real trials targeting vulnerable groups for political gain based on ethnicity, race, religion or political affiliation rather than for crimes committed. And its existence points to serious dangers ahead for the country."

The case for calling Florida’s ‘Alligator Alcatraz' a concentration camp

Amid ICE raids, President Donald Trump toured a new immigration detention facility with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

@MostlyTato

Why has nobody done anything about all the London buses so obviously targeted by terrorists?

@Justice30

Today in Newcastle

#FreePalestine

In Parliament Square today, there were numerous arrests of people holding placards in support of the proscribed organisation #PalestineAction. Amongst these people was 83-year-old Reverend Sue Parfitt

She is some sort of heroine, really.

As I watch the behavior of the leaders of the US and more often than not, the UK, I am reminded of the words of Hannah Arendt, someone who saw more barbarism than most, and who recognised its root causes.
Statement by President Higgins on violence in Israel and Gaza | President of Ireland

Welcome to the website of the President of Ireland.

@tompearce49 TERF Island, Jerk Island, Turd Island. Eh, they all fit.
@tompearce49
Humans are empathetic by nature, so the root cause is actually education,mass media,influential role models,...in the end the economic system that wants us to forget this part of our nature to function in the right way (normalizing profit, greed, ...) and in moments of the system's decay even chauvinism, racism, ...to save capitalism through justification of barbarism.
#socialism #war #ideology #capitalism #nature #human
@AllesInBewegung @tompearce49 if that were completely true we wouldn’t see barbarism in the animal kingdom. Chimps and great apes both show compassion and empathy but also have been seen ripping stray members from another group literally to pieces. We empathize with things like ourselves, we are taught to notice differences. The individuals that teach us to notice differences also teach us what those differences mean. It comes from the sources of the knowledge, not the knowledge.
@passwordsarehard4
Of course you are right that apes are agressive towards other groups, they need to survive, defend the their access to resources. They solely depend on the scarce resources surrounding them. But we are not simple animals and able to organize better than them for everyone's benefit. Generally speaking: Instead of fighting each other we should found a unite to one socialist federation or smth...
@tompearce49
@passwordsarehard4
And another good thing: Humans have compassion with other beings (not just pets;), it is a matter of consciousness, the necessary next step in human development.
@tompearce49
@tompearce49 "The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy." - Elon Musk
@kubouch @tompearce49
These words of his make Elon Musk into a barbarian, surely.
@villavelius @kubouch @tompearce49 to nic nemění na tom že je to pravda...
@tompearce49 Makes me think of the mass gatherings of MAGA folks on the beaches of Galveston with signs reading "Fuck your feelings"
@tompearce49 Also applicable to the Netherlands. Last night the #extremeright parties made it a criminal act to help people without papers.
@tompearce49 I’ve been thinking about her a lot this year
@tompearce49 We are supposed to be so advanced but we can't fix the misery in the world. It is caused by Overpopulation and oppressive religion that turns women into Baby making machines.
@MissWarcraft @tompearce49 it’s caused by “having.”. While I agree our natural worldwide population should be about one billion, even at our current population we could easily support it. We just couldn’t own anything. Divided up equally there is enough of everything. Getting rid of “owning” gets rid of waste, it gets rid of hoarding, it gets rid of most jealousy and theft. Want is the biggest driver of crime and war, we get world peace. We just need to share and stop judging.
@passwordsarehard4 @tompearce49 When do Countries get to say Enough? We can't take anymore? If people in "western" "EU" nations say What about OUR Culture we are attacked. Why can't we say What about US?

@tompearce49

Sadly you are correct with regard to UK.
The recent actions by England Labour are barbaric, a recent speech by Starmer reminded me of Enoch Powell but also the Leamington Spa Riots of my youth.Sparked by Colin Jordans words of hate they ended visits to Pakistani and Indian Familys, Kids I went to school with were stigmatized. Many ended up broken, suffering PTSD and failing in study.

I had always hoped to never see such hatred being kindled again and again and again.

@tompearce49
The "banality of evil". I never knew where this phrase came from, but it still has meaning now. How many of our legislators are just riding along like Eichmann?
@tompearce49 I think people are still good enough. I think It's just that good people do not want power, and the few really evil ones have managed to figure out the nuts and bolts of democracy and have risen to power.
@tompearce49 I think she was brilliant and here on Mastodon there is an article by Philosophy Break about her

Hannah Arendt: 5 Insights into Totalitarianism | Philosophy Break

Five short passages from Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism on the roles played by propaganda, misinformation, and loneliness.
