@HamonWry It's an opportunity for shedding layers of cynicism

@JenB @Runkefer @waldoj @griesar Thanks, Jen.

If it all goes well and I can make this happen, I'll open up some kind of tip jar for others to help defray costs... esp. if it is successful enough to incur any meaningful amount of them. 🙂

@Runkefer @waldoj @griesar @JenB Then I'll work on migration instructions as well as brand-new-to-Mastodon instructions... and then open things up to anyone in the Cville area.

If anyone is interested in helping out with any of those steps, please send me an email (steven.l.johnson [at] gmail.com) and let me know how you can help!

@Runkefer @waldoj @griesar @JenB Thanks.

Thanks for sharing that—it is really interesting to read. I'm close to biting the bullet and creating a cville Mastodon server.

First step is picking a domain name. After that, getting mastodon setup on a hosting service... if masto.host was accepting new customers, I'd use them... since they aren't, I'm leaning towards using digitalocean and managing a few more details myself.

@heidilifeldman @adamdavidson

For anyone on a different server, here's a page showing recent posts for that server https://journa.host/public

See what's happening - Mastodon

Another reminder, since we got a lot of new people!

Please assume all messages you send on any mastodon instance are not private. While we have no interest in reading your private messages, they are not encrypted in sending or receiving instances, and we cannot guarantee your privacy, especially when they cross instance boundaries.

If you have something private and sensitive to say, take it to another, more privacy-oriented system.

Thank you and happy tooting!

Sunset.

@adamdavidson I had a cat return after a month away.

It had lost some weight and its fur was a bit scraggly, but within a few days it was all back to normal—acting as if the whole great adventure had never happened.

Best wishes to you for Marmalade to make a speedy return.

Begonia.

@drjenkirby I mean, I suppose it might be?? (not that there's anything wrong with that... 😆)
