Why do programmers celebrate Christmas on Hallloween?

Because OCT 31 = DEC 25

China bans U.S. and Israeli cybersecurity software over security concerns

@seven_708 What are you replacing them with?

Just because some models use stolen data, doesn’t mean they all have to. Meta’s models are simply one implementation and do not define the entire field.

Apertus: a fully open, transparent, multilingual language model

On 2 September 2025, EPFL, ETH Zurich and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) released Apertus - Switzerland’s first large-scale, open, multilingual language model — a milestone in generative AI for transparency and diversity.

@GossiTheDog You’ve obviously never seem open dataset trained models then. Nothing stolen trained on. Blanket statements are seldom accurate.

@GossiTheDog

We don’t need to make large motorized vehicles that can run people over either. Somehow we’ve coalesced on making traffic laws and placing safety measures to mitigate the harm due to the overwhelming benefits.

@GossiTheDog
Is it too much to hope for a world where we hold the people responsible, and leave the tools alone? For every nefarious use blocked, an innovation or inspired learner gets snuffed out.

Living in a bounce house world really obstructs the view out.

“Shouldn’t” is a dangerous word unless you have validating evidence to back the assertions.
Translation and summarization are already lossy processes with or without LLMs. I don’t see your logic.
@nixCraft
Can we stop framing local LLMs as “bad”? A small local model that summarizes and translates is abundantly more private than sending that same data to an external tool.
