First half of Stephen West's "Painting Columns" is off the needles - now to cast on for the 2nd side before I procrastinate! There is a lot of knitting in this & it could be in danger of "2nd side syndrome" if I don't get it started today! #knittersofmastodon
Back home after the xmas expedition to Wales and trying to get back into the knit routine! I keep getting distracted by the xmas goodies but there is some progress on #Painting Columns - I'm just starting on the main body and there are nearly 300 stitches per row of stranded knitting so this may take me some time! #knittersofmastodon
Very simple mash up of a few knitting patterns to create some slipper socks for my friend with the very swollen & very cold feet. I do hope they will fit. I made notes as I went along so can tweak for a better fit once he's tried them on.

He also decided to create a community โ€œwarm lounge,โ€ for those to use who could not afford to heat their homes.

Kind-hearted Yorkshire baker allows locals to use his oven to bake their Christmas cakes

A kindhearted baker is offering the use of his ovens to hard-up locals so they can bake their Christmas cakes for free.

Calling on the knowledge & skills of #KnittingMastodon - I've been asked to come up with knitted slippers for a young friend who has a number of physical disabilities. Foot length is 10.5" but foot circumference at the widest point is 15" and the ankle circumference for 1 foot is 21.5" and 2 foot is 18". I need ideas for easily adaptable patterns, preferably knitted in a bulky yarn if I'm to make them in time for xmas.
Sheffield Carols - one of my favourites is Sweet Chiming Bells love both the pub versions & Kate Rusby's. "Hail Smiling Morn" will always make me think of "home" and the photos here show you it's beauty!

The mad panic of xmas knitting was perhaps not the best time to try to learn how to knit jogless stripes! I'm hoping to make a very warm hat with a knitted lining. The yarn was bought at New Lanark last month. #knitting #KnittingMastodon
It's the time of year when I get homesick for Sheffield - or to be more specific the tradition of Sheffield Sings! I love hearing the local & national carols sung to tunes you might not recognise or not think of as a carol tune, sung in the pubs between Armistice Day & Xmas. I do hope someone can post more current videos as many of the You Tube ones are at least 10 years old! Here's where to find them if you are in the area http://www.localcarols.org.uk/sings.php

Lake Effect Snow Hat pattern by Laura Cunitz

This chunky brimmed hat has lots of interesting features that make it fun to knit and wear. It is my personal go-to hat when I am out shoveling snow where I live in Lake Tahoe. They include:

I've been limiting myself to a chapter a day of my ancestors book - partly because i need time to absorb all of the family information but also I need time to reflect on the juvenile justice system as it was in those days. Today's chapter has brought me to the part where his younger brother is transported to Western Australia and he is unable to go as originally planned due to catching cholera. I wonder what their lives would have turned out if they had been able to stay together. #genealogy
