And tonight I take the time to think about and lament loss of the people who lost their lives helping others today and every day.
@ritchiepage2001 @sashin @nus @Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder for my part, I’m going to respond with some other thoughts tomorrow, because I value all your thinking
@ritchiepage2001 @sashin @nus @Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder so practice the kindness that I know you all have, because this could be a really meaningful conversation with meaningful results. If I know one thing, it’s that quiet discussion brings amazing results, even between people who fail to agree on the most basic of things!
@ritchiepage2001 @sashin @nus @Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder y’all, stop and think just a few moments, that you are arguing with each other about something that we won’t ever agree on, and often being a bit harsh on each other. If there’s one thing we can hopefully agree on, hopefully it is to be kind and remember, we’re all people just trying to find our answers, whatever they are. Cont…
@Radical_EgoCom @thakman53 @tomcapuder which brings us all the way back to trust and faith. Which is a fun discussion for another day! (And something I have worked on for decades ;-) Thanks for today’s discussions though, it is a good thing to work these through and I appreciate the opportunity.
@thakman53 @Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder yeah, that’s it. Now, Darwin or Wallace ;-)
@Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder it is under threat (as I noted earlier today) because of the sheer amount of garbage we have to deal with to ensure what is written is “true” - it’s hard, it takes time, and it’s almost entirely overlooked. With the onset of artificially generated crap we are at a serious disadvantage.
@Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder it’s not religious faith. And it shouldn’t be unquestioning (careful though because sometimes it is and that is wrong and possibly dangerous). Ultimately the thjongs we know are based on trust, in science, scientists, the scientific method and consensus. And that’s okay because as you note, right now that’s the best thing we have… that said…
@Radical_EgoCom @tomcapuder of course we tale things on faith in science. It’s quite normal and not the same as saying science is faith. Meanwhile, there is evidence to suggest dark matter isn’t. A thing, that is. As Feynman said, we’re bending over backwards to prove ourselves wrong. That’s the whole point :-) Of course science gives better truer answers because of the method, but never think we as scientists don’t take some things on faith. But…
@neurovagrant thanks for sharing these. As “high functioning” I confess I never really thought about the lack of accommodation. Just dealt with it. It’s good that you made me think this way, thanks!
