Social Inequalities in the Risk and Aftermath of Miscarriage (SOC-MISC).

An ERC Starting Grant funded project analysing the social inequalities in the risk and consequences of miscarriage in Finland, France, and the UK lead by @heinivaisanen

The project aims to:
1. develop methodologies to study miscarriage
2. examine social inequalities in miscarriage risk
3. study social inequalities in health consequences of miscarriage
4. compare these results between areas/countries.

The funds allow us to write more articles studying these data on miscarriage experiences in France.
We will also use these funds to organise a workshop with healthcare professionals and those who have recently experienced a #miscarriage to develop an infographic about support and care resources available after a miscarriage in France.

FR |🔎 Aujourd’hui à l’occasion du congrès de l’Association Française de Sociologie à Toulouse, Hélène Malmanche présente les résultats préliminaires de l’enquête FISO : Fausses couches et Inégalités SOciales, volet qualitatif du projet @socmisc réalisé auprès de personnes ayant vécu une fausse couche dans les cinq dernières années en France hexagonale.

In addition, @heinivaisanen presented a poster 'Social inequalities in (recurrent) miscarriage risk among Finnish mothers' with preliminary results finding discrepancies in #miscarriage risk in #Finland by income, but less so by education or migrant status using administrative data

Yesterday, MC Compans presented on 'Miscarriage prevalence and factors: a multi-source approach in #France', discussing the +/- of using surveys, administrative, and qualitative data to study #miscarriage. Triangulation is key and the right data source depends on research questions

The SOC-MISC team is currently attending the #ESHRE annual conference in #Paris. We were able to present some of our research (see thread 🧵👇) and learn a lot from others. We commend the organisers for an interesting and thought provoking event!

The preliminary results presented indicate that miscarriages are more comprehensively included in self-reported sources (surveys, ante-natal appointments) than in healthcare registers, but both types resources have their pros and cons depending on the research questions we're asking.
