Embrace the Suck

Sometimes we may start a project knowing exactly what we want to say and how to say it, and the words flow out of us like milk and honey in the land of plenty. But other times we have to find our way to what we're trying to convey, just keep pounding out the words and ideas so w

@creative_xl8 Ha, nice!
Admittedly, I only play #Tetris for fun and wouldn't want to lose too much time with it, but this video explaining how someone beat the game and why it was such a big deal is quite fascinating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJ5UuknsHU 😲

‼️ BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT STUFF!

Sorry for screaming in your feed, but I just saw a post by someone I follow who lost everything in a fire in her building (not caused by her). This is tragic and a reminder that terrible things can happen even if you are careful. Others may not be.

Make digital copies of your most important documents. Store valuable files (finances, emergency information, your art & writing...) in at least one offsite location (the cloud, a relative's house...).

DO IT, PLEASE!

The Upwork idiots are at it again. Today's gem of a job ad is for all you smart folks out there (see screenshot). An irresistible offer, eh?

Also, coming soon to Harvard, Yale and Co.: New Master's Program in "Copying & Pasting"!
Prerequisites:
- at least a Bachelor's degree in "Turning a Computer ON and OFF"
- a brain (must be your own)
Postgraduate options:
- PhD in "Finding the # key and other cryptic symbols on a keyboard" (keyboard not included in tuition)

@ilovecomputers "Eve of the Daleks", but I may be biased b/c I'm a fan of Groundhog Day storylines, which are hard to pull off, especially with a contained setting.

The AI copywriting saga continues: Instead of acknowledging that their plan didn't work and changing their strategy, the people involved in the project are now wasting time and money discussing how to improve the AI prompts etc.

Normally, I'd say let this company lose that money, but the same company fired hundreds of people earlier this year due to budget cuts. I bet at least some of those jobs could've been saved had this project been run more competently and without this AI shitshow. 😡

#AI

@coffeenlanguage Yikes. Though not surprising, given that they've been promoting that nonsense ChatGPT webinar by S. Bammel and even featured him during ITD in September. And apparently, there's now also a premium membership option that includes AI. Urrg.
Every now and then I reactivate my membership for a year to test my visibility but that's a great reason to let it expire again. 🤢
@simon Würden dann die Chefs nicht einfach sagen, okay, dann lassen wir die Angestellten weiterhin Reisende befördern, zahlen ihnen dafür aber keinen Lohn mehr?
