govts need to understand being identifiable is not only a danger to freedom of speech and the ability to critique our government, but also a danger to our general safety against literally any bad actor online.

you don't need to interact with a post to stalk someone. You don't even need to be in the same continent. (1/2)

Age verification doesn't protect children. it endangers them and their families... This is why #privacy matters. It's not "one or the other". You need both.

I don't know if govts are enacting these things on purpose to erode our privacy and anonymity... Or if they're too stupid to see that anonymity online is the only way to be safe online.

@overit Possibly. Though I've heard rumors that the UK in particular has MPs who don't know what a VPN is. All they know is that "It's a thing that bypasses age verification"

Stupidity is just as terrifying just in other ways.
