Everyone thinks, haha, these squirrels don't even remember where they hid 90% of the nuts they store for the winter they are so dumb, but nobody ever asks if the squirrels might be out there thinking, my ancestors planted this forest that provides for us all, and my children's children will know the same of me.

You ever think this is a lot of foolishness for billions of years of evolution to put up with? All this astonishing beauty we could just walk around for a lifetime of astonishment and instead corporate economics gives us Meta and artificially colored cheese puffs.
A local volunteer group around me has turned an area of derelict land by the railway line into a wildlife area with a small woodchip path and some seating. It's amazing to sit and listen to the birds. Not big on wild plants so maybe someone else can identify them?

Firstly, continuous economic growth, especially based on the consumption of fossil fuels, is leading to catastrophic global warming.

Secondly, the infinite pursuit of growth relies on the depletion of natural resources, the destruction of biodiversity and the accumulation of waste and pollution. This also poses risks to our health, our economies and our societies writ large.

Thirdly, the current economic model is contributing to social inequality and exclusion

Moving beyond growth is not only desirable — it is essential

Question:

Does anyone know a good book or paper about the history of the concept of "nature"?

Is it even true that native communities lived in harmony with nature? Because that needed a distiction between a human and a natural realm. Is "nature" an invention of modernism? How did the concept change over time? Does "nature" need the abolition of the gods? Etc.

I know in these times of danger it seems like the expedient thing is to try to protect the air, the water, the children, the climate within the systems we've got. And of course we need to do whatever we can. But, I'd assert, as my systems teachers have taught me, we can't avoid also looking straight at what those systems are designed for. And, if they aren't for air, water, children, climate, well, then what?
