This why I mentioned Latin 1 (even when you make comments about it, it is annoying). Here taking the example of the smiley face :

- image left (Unicode) -> full smile! 😊
I guess it could be translated as : people live in their bubble and only recognise their own. Very common for crooks to try to isolate people from their ref group. Christianity.
