@smcintyre I clicked over here and was like "oh good, they haven't banned you too"

I've only found 2 people cool enough to follow so far and 50% have been banned so I have a feeling my days here are numbered.

@L_isaMarie Whoops, I thought they actually fixed something instead of making it more complicated, my bad lolsob

They don't want to promote interesting content...but aren't we supposed to find each other based on content we find interesting? I'm obviously new here, so I might be getting that wrong.

@L_isaMarie Yes! That's how I found you lol I also saw someone mention how the star button was originally meant for bookmarks but they changed the functionality because people were using as a like button?

So...they put a button in the same place as a conventional like button and expected people to use it completely differently from any other platform they've ever used?! A+ UX research there folks

@L_isaMarie @smcintyre I never got very involved in ultra-techy spaces, but I did notice that whenever I'd use open source stuff the creators either genuinely cared about their project years later or basically put it out and said "I'm done, very tired of dealing with this, it's free, why are you whining, do what you want with it."

This may be one of the first times I've seen "Wait, no, not like that!" lol

@L_isaMarie @smcintyre Exactly. And they don't even stop to think that maybe users complaining *is* contributing? That maybe those users can't fix the problem, but they could provide valuable feedback. Based on the platform, that value seems to be contingent upon profits or actually caring about the user's experience. I'm not getting either here.
@L_isaMarie @Gargron There's a lot of people welcoming exTwitriates and plenty of "we're super edgy, die mad about it" vibes going on simultaneously. Going against social media UX conventions and using intentionally exclusionary jargon is not helpful...unless their goal is to use UX obstacles as an IQ test so only the "smart" people end up here.
@L_isaMarie I've already talked about how the UX and onboarding processes are atrocious and gotten what amounts to "if you don't like it, fix it or leave". They should be THRILLED with the fix-it folks, and yet...
@jackwilliambell @fribbledom My last sentence talked about the downside of open source. Pulling an "if you don't like it, fix it yourself or leave" is why people keep leaving and denigrating this platform elsewhere. I worked in UX research for over a decade. This learning curve feels steep by design, awkward, and throws new users (who lack the will/skill to fix anything) into the deep end. A comprehensive step by step at sign up would acclimate new users to a different social media experience.
@jackwilliambell @fribbledom I would like to move here, but this app has many alienating elements and bad UX decisions. This is Usenet 2.0 with Twitter add-ons, so they should try using the terminology people have referenced for 40+ years instead of being "new and edgy". People need familiarity to feel at home. If they leave or are on the fence, figure out why. But unlike for-profit social media, there's no driving need to figure out how to keep people engaged no matter what.
This is the first new social media platform I've joined since Discord and it's just as confusing #SeniorCitizenMillennial
