A small business advisor and professional metal artist (gold and silver, not music). I’m the biggest fan of small businesses and I want to help them succeed. Likes - more responsibility in the jewelry industry, unions, using a torch to melt metal. Dislikes - TERFs, people in the way of progress.

Anyone have a recommendation for software that does text to speech on top of an existing video file? Preferably from a srt (video captions) file? It would be nice to not have to use tiktok for this kind of thing, especially if they don't like us any more
@enobacon @ChrisMcCahill In the South Bay region of Los Angeles county, 70% of our car trips are less than 3 miles ROUNDTRIP. We need bike and micro mobility lanes yesterday
You should know if you wanted to delete Threads, you have to delete your entire Instagram account.
I can see how this maybe makes sense to people who have never been the target of persistent mass abuse for just existing, but if your whole strategy once an Instagram-scale brigade kicks off is to stay reactive, you're planning to use your trans/queer/Black/high-viz users as ablative shielding.

Chaya Raichik, a/k/a Libs of TikTok, has set up on Threads — as if I needed one more reason to avoid the site. Since she’s on Facebook & Instagram, this isn’t surprising. But it still shows what kind of hateful & dangerous speech will be tolerated — and shown in people's algorithmic timelines. (She wouldn’t be allowed on my Mastodon instance.)

(If you don’t know about Libs of TikTok, please just do some searches; don’t ask me about her.)

This one is less scammy, but still iffy. See the X to close out the pop up? I didn't at first. The color contrast is not clear enough, especially on a dark and patterned background

I've been collecting screenshots from around the internets of bad UX/UI or just downright scammy design. Thinking that I'll compile them into a what-not-to-do list. It's my own contribution to making the web a better place by calling out bad actors when I see it.

This one for instance. It comes up under a search for focus assistant or ADHD alternatives. It says Buy Now but doesn't tell you the price until you use the buy now button.

And for right now I will set aside how predatory this all is considering the very real shortages of Rx ADHD drugs.

Punch up, not down:

Ironic, the lawsuit combatting legacy admissions at Harvard will help more Asian students get into Harvard, than the anti-Black, anti-affirmative lawsuit that the supreme court just heard.🙂🙃

And if you look at the group that's filing the anti-legacy lawsuit, you'll see that it's headed by some of the leading Black, Asian, white, latinx, Muslim, and Jewish, lawyers in the nation. Yes, including Harvard grads. Yes, including Harvard legacies.♥️👍🏿
