@rmondello I started using NextDNS about a month ago and find that it is the least intrusive solution that works across all platforms. For iOS/macOS, you can just install a profile and you get ad blocking wherever you are (as opposed to Pi-Hole or equivalent).

Also it lets you see the DNS requests on a per device basis.

Unfortunately this doesn't meet your third requirement of a lifetime subscription ($20/year).

Working From Home

There has been a lot of discussion in the last few years about people working from home where it went from almost no one to most office workers working from their homes. My experience working from …

I received a package from Amazon today that was completely empty. It was an envelope and when the driver handed it to me, I could clearly see there was nothing in it. The driver took the package back and entered something on his device.

Not sure how Amazon packed and shipped an empty envelope.

For anyone using TurboTax for Mac this year, there is a serious bug in calculating 529 plan qualified distributions. It appears to be marking them as unqualified and taxing them.

If I enter the qualified expense, tax goes up, set it to zero, goes down, set it back to the original value, it goes up. Delete the value it goes away, tax goes down. The original value comes back, but the tax does not go up.

@lwdupont A co-worker at the last company I worked swore that management used the metrics to determine who to let go during layoffs. I didn’t know what to think, but I survived 5 rounds of layoffs and I made a lot of commits; many weren’t substantial but I like to commit small pieces at a time. Relying on commit metrics would be a bad way to judge effectiveness.
@Cdespinosa Funny I did not know what VF stood for and did work for them when I was at eBay. (I worked in a group exploring retail tech.) Thanks for the lesson!
Lost My Wallet

I’ve been carrying a wallet for something like 35 years in my back pocket. Initially, I carried my ATM card and a few dollars. When I got my driver’s license, I added that to the mix. Slowly over t…
