#MutualAidRequest can I get literally just like. twenty-something bucks so I can turn my phone service back on and get and place calls for the myriad of things that you need to have a phone at the ready for always and forever?

(more at least gets me out of the 300 i'm in the red but thankfully I can pay my phone bill directly via PayPal)

https://paypal.me/senil888streams (purely because this is the one my phone is logged in to)

hopefully tax return is, y'know, sizeable enough to briefly help but I won't be getting that for a couple of months at minimum.

edit: phone is back on, yippee, but still pretty in the red and can use some help being Not In The Red by about 325 USD so other bills and shit will process. Even if it means overdraft fees hitting again.

Since I'm also trying to get legal counsel to figure out if I can sue this health company for at least damages, if there isn't any applicable federal or state law they broke doing their bullshit.

Unemployment is being a bitch about just letting me file claims, so any #MutualAid to help me afford an initial legal consult would be extremely helpful. The initial consult with the firm I initially reached out to back in... November? December? was 100 USD for either an hour or ninety minutes. During that I hope to at least establish if this is a civil suit and what, if any, laws might be in my favor.

i can try to accept other forms but DM me first so we can hash that out.

Re-posting this and trying to bolster it again. Trying to #GetFediHired as a controls engineer (or similar), since a health company fucked me up and I'm still trying to deal with that.

Predominately an electrical controls engineer. Automation software, CoDeSys, IEC 61131-3, some DNP3/ModBus comms work, general control schema and SCADA systems for different purposes. Mostly worked with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories's stuff, done some work with Allen Bradley's platform as well, in addition to some communications with a Metrohm analyzer.

Did some project based work during my time at SEL, previous job was supporting a manufacturing facility. Thinking project-based work is more suited for me (mostly ADHD satisfaction go brrr and also it gives me an excuse to dive deep into various standards and specs for different environments) but that can be in the form of multiple projects within a company's operations or more contract-y work for external clients. Kinda done both, but I think I enjoy that "supporting others" more than supporting internal systems.

Currently in the #Portland (Oregon) metro, most accessible is anything along or close to a MAX line or is otherwise west of the Willamette. Knowing my kind of work hybrid is the best I'll get (both cause nature of this field in my experience plus some personal factors) but hey, if someone knows of a remote controls engineer position with not a fuck ton of travel I'll consider it.

Given that I'm still early on in my career, I'm open to pivoting to more design-focused roles. Little experience with protective relay work. Not an EIT though am willing to get one as soon as possible.

ironically, in order to argue against fedi CW culture, you need to be in a position of privilege

it's said that CWs "allow privileged people to stay in their comfort zone". this is false, and it's an idea that ignores why CWs exist

CW culture was never meant for them

CWs are a tool for accessibility and self-defense

they are so that people who are not privileged (those of us who suffer oppression, anxiety, trauma) have a minimum of agency to decide HOW and WHEN we expose ourselves to content that can harm us

it's being able to say "today I don't have the mental energy to read about [transphobia/racism/violence]" and still be able to exist online

to complain about this tool, you have to be someone who doesn't need it. you have to have the privilege of not having your mental health affected by seeing that hostility

How dare you wish me a Happy Honda Days when you know me and my family celebrate Toyotathon.
@inderix the literal only reason I dislike Ubuntu is them trying to shove snaps down everyone's throat (and a lot of snaps were just kinda made when snapd launched and aren't official) but outside of that one nitpick (which is very minor) I don't care if folks use it or not. Whatever works best for them, and if that happens to be Ubuntu, that's all that matters.

The European Commission lost the Chat Control 2.0 battle over access to end-to-end encrypted data. By the summer 2026, they will be back with their next attempt: Going Dark. This time some EU member states want to include VPN services.

The Going Dark initiative, or ProtectEU as the Commission now calls it, wants to “enable law enforcement authorities to access encrypted data in a lawful manner”. This is a Chat Control 3.0 attempt.

(Larger updates are prob going to be blog posts once things are off the ground and things are Allegedly Functional, but for now this'll do)

Today's "progress" (if I can even call it that) mostly just consists of getting the absolute basics down for how to structure things, refreshing myself on how to Python, and also pulling over the tiny bits of code that won't be changed from morshutalk-output (being the .wav file write). Still need to look into alternatives for a bunch of the packages, I want to try and use stuff that's up-to-date and doesn't rely on deprecated features like audioop.

I think I'm only going to have morshutalk-v2 support outputting the raw wav file, and/or convert it to opus (in an ogg container) or, failing that, aac. Whether I'll have it always do both or not IDK, it depends on whether I can skip writing the wav file and can pass the appropriate bytearray into the encoder.

On Linux that's fairly easy so long that opusenc is installed, since I can just use subprocess to do a system call within the python code. But I really want to try and avoid doing anything like that - if I can get a mostly-straightforward transcode into opus or aac or whatever I'd be much happier, I want to try and avoid any system-level dependencies if possible. Mostly as an exercise in portability, and also to avoid any weirdness that'd come with versioning outside of my control.

But "technically functional" is better than "not functional" at least. The actual morshu-v2 class and all that doesn't exist yet, since that all has to wait for me to identify what libs are viable replacements for what the OG version of morshutalk uses, and what I can wrap into native Python code (if possible and if not painful to do so).

#MorshuTalk_v2 #Python

Like, I shoved this post into my "version" of morshutalk and this audio is what it gave me. My goal is for this output to not rely on unmaintained shit, and potentially sound a little better (even if it's just by reducing the peaking of audio so it's a bit less jarring at times).

anyways if you want to keep track of shit uhh go here https://github.com/SenilTheSynth/morshutalk-output it'll possibly morph into its own unique project at some point.
