SECAI, School of Embedded Composite Artificial Intelligence, a collaborative project between TU Dresden and Leipzig University, is a DAAD Zuse School of Excellence in AI that promotes research and education by supporting students, enhancing teaching, funding researchers, and facilitating interdisciplinary exchange. Focused on two core themes—developing composite AI methods and integrating AI algorithms into tailored microelectronics and intelligent devices.

Day two of the Touch Sensing and Processing Summer School is complete. Today the participants had the opportunity to go on an excursion to Saxon Switzerland, after which they could see Dresden's old town from a historic steamboat and were given a short tour around the city. The weather was on our side. Tomorrow the programme continues with a series of talks.

Kick-off for the Touch Sensing and Processing Summer School! Roberto Calandra welcomes the 40 researchers who have travelled here from 14 countries. Today, the focus is on the significance of touch sensing and processing as well as the most important challenges. The first participants are now arriving at our Touch Sensing and Processing Summer School at the Jugendgästehaus Liebethal. In the coming days, they will receive input from world leaders in touch sensing and processing, participate in discussions and present their research.

The Free State is reaffirming its commitment to developing innovative prevention and treatment methods by laying the foundation stone for a new building for the DKFZ Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum in Dresden on 23 July.

Saxony Sets Foundation for a New DKFZ Building in Dresden - SECAI

Saxony invests significantly in cancer research, thus setting an important course in the fight against cancer. With the laying of the foundation stone for a new building for the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in Dresden on 23 July, the Free State is reaffirming its commitment to developing innovative prevention and treatment methods. Minister President Michael Kretschmer emphasized the excellent conditions provided by the highly respected medical infrastructure and renowned research centres in Dresden. Supporting the project with 20 million euros emphasizes the importance of this initiative for Saxony.

Carolin Schimmelpfennig is the first at the SECAI to complete her doctorate. She investigated gene fusions in prostate cancer, characterised potential new candidates and researched their role as prognostic markers for PCa progression.

First doctorate for Carolin Schimmelpfennig at the SECAI Graduate School - SECAI

Carolin Schimmelpfennig is the first doctoral student at the SECAI Graduate School to successfully complete her doctorate. In her doctoral thesis, she investigated gene fusions in prostate cancer (PCa), characterised potential new candidates and researched their role as prognostic markers for PCa progression. Kristin Reiche and Markus Kreuz supervised her work at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI).

Every year, Saxony Media Solutions GmbH awards a prize for the best master's thesis in software technology. This year, the €1,000 prize was awarded to Ms Lidia Roszko for her significant contribution with her thesis on smart glasses.

SECAI Scholar Enrik Geißler completed a research internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center under Professor Tyler Berzin from Harvard Medical School. Enrik's work focused on advanced endoscopy and AI integration in clinical practice.

SECAI Welcomes the First Participants of the new Exchange Programme with South Africa - SECAI

The Cape-KR, a scientific symposium to promote the AI sub-disciplines of knowledge representation and automatic reasoning, took place in Cape Town from 29 January to 2 February. Organised by Tommie Mayer, SECAI partner and co-director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research South Africa (CAIR), and supported financially and personally by SECAI, the event not only served to promote regional students and young scientists, but also to deepen the cooperation between SECAI and the University of Cape Town (UCT). Thanks to the efforts of Fellow Sebastian Rudolph, SECAI-funded guest stays for South African Master's students were initiated as part of the event, with SECAI welcoming the first participants this semester.
