Apple is fast becoming the go-to for UI mistakes to avoid. It’s like the counter-development to the HIG.

So if I want a home security system, the two top choices are a company that has been handed from PE firm to LE firm and the embodiment of warrantless mass surveillance. Great.

EVERY TIME I open Keynote on the Mac I now get a prompt to upgrade. I can’t recall even severely outdated software pushing this hard for an update after the user clearly expresses they’re fine for now.

@jsnell Very clear-eyed review. Thank you for that. I found myself agreeing with everything you said (although I really want 120Hz because I can’t unsee ProMotion anymore). It’s a disappointing update.
@dmoren Disqualified for display reviews then 😉 JK!
@dmoren I hear you. It does feel to me like Apple has non-core products that get a 3-5 year commitment, only serve a niche, and they then are willing to let languish. They did eventually discontinue the ACD when it was hopelessly outdated, and I’m not sure the market size for such a product (at this price) has changed much since those days.
@dmoren Couldn’t disagree harder 😇 The Studio Display was already overpriced/underspecced when it was originally released. Not adding 120Hz and a height-adjustable stand now is just sad. It’ll keep the volume low, updates unlikely, and it will get eventually discontinued just like the ACD.
It’s fascinating to see how Apple stays true to their tradition of underspecced, overpriced consumer displays. I was hoping for an update to the Studio Display, but I will not shell out $1600+ for a monitor that only has 60Hz. Once you go ProMotion, you can’t unsee it.
@marcoarment Same here. It’s sad to follow the decline of Apple’s UI design skill in such detail as we do here.
@gruber @mwichary I’ve had issues with copy and paste on macOS Sequoia, but I thought it’s the origin application refusing to really copy.
