I've occasionally mentioned that we're experiencing a 'slow motion apocalypse' and this quote captures it perfectly.🔥

While it doesn't name oligarchs specifically, they ARE the core of the rot in our civilization today, hidden behind a veneer of wealth and power.

RIGHT NOW, our civilization is facing its greatest test ever:

Will we go quietly into the darkness, giving up a livable world so the 1% can laze like dragons atop mounds of wealth as our world burns?

Or will we choose a better path?

Hey there folks, just a quick note to say I'm still here on Mastodon! 😀👍

I've been concentrating my activity on Twitter for most of 2024, but in case that nutty site implodes, I'm on ALL the major platforms. Come and find me wherever you hang out so we can follow each other's work:

Thirty years ago, a bold, evil plan was cooked up to spread doubt and persuade the public that #climatechange wasn't a problem, the consequences of which are all around us today.

The Global Climate Coalition (GCC) - which represented the oil, coal, auto, utilities, steel, and rail industries - decided to change the narrative on climate change to protect their profits.

If that meant confusing the public about scientific evidence with floods of disinfo, then so be it.

The audacious PR plot that seeded doubt about climate change

Thirty years ago, a bold plan was hatched to persuade people that climate change was not a problem.

Collective action can have a direct effect on society, a recent study on climate strikes shows. Almost a third of Swiss people have changed their daily habits as a result of @GretaThunberg’s Fridays for Future #climatestrikes, new research has found. 💚✅

FYI, I'm still here on Mastodon, folks!

I've created accounts on all the current social media platforms, which for the moment means stretching myself a little thin.

Once I figure out how to better balance things between platforms, you'll see more of me here.

You can find all my social media accounts easily at: linktr.ee/sciencenotdogma

In the meantime: keep up your daily climate action to help solve the climate crisis!

"Stop interrupting our fun with news of an iceberg!"

Ignoring a problem doesn't solve it, folks.

The #ClimateCrisis is the greatest threat we face today.

Solving it will create a better future for humanity.✅

Pretending it doesn't exist condemns us all.🔥

Welp, looks like Musk is setting fire to Twitter in a new way today.🤨

It's seriously stupefying to see a 'genius' billionaire destroying his media platform in a new way EVERY week, all in the hopes of forcing users to pay him $8/month for USEFUL features.🤑

I'm saddened at how Twitter's fallen by the wayside, taken over by scum - it was (and still can be) a solid platform for instanews, but not one for reputable sources now that the Verified program is dead.

An idiot is running things now.🤪

"...because everyone knows that whether it is a disaster movie or real life, no one listens to the scientists until it is too late. Hopefully this is the time we decide to break that pattern."

So sadly true.

Yet if we all KNOW it's the case, WHY do we keep DOING it anyway? 🤨

It's important that anyone taking #ClimateAction understand the basics of #climatechange science and where its edges are.

This is a great read on both:

"Attribution science, which is about understanding the role of climate change versus natural weather patterns and climate variability, can help us better understand the connections to extreme weather, provide new insight into what specific emissions are driving the worst impacts, and help shape climate solutions."

"Researchers have found a relationship between harmful masculinity, #rightwing extremism and refusal to deal with the #ClimateCrisis. 'Petro-masculinity' refers to men using #fossilfuels to express an individualistic and patriarchal type of #masculinity."

I must add: in my years on #socialmedia, almost every nasty troll I've encountered was a #male, often white and middle-aged, outraged at a changing world that USED to favour THEM.

Learn to spot such toxic traits!

White men are the super spreaders of climate denialism

There is a tight relationship between harmful forms of masculinity, right-wing extremism and the refusal to deal with the climate crisis.
