Are you at #ASABangor @ASAB conference? Head to Session 1 (MALT room) at 11:45 to see PhD student Eetu Selenius's presentation "Female attractiveness and mate choice linked to maintaining colour polymorphism in the wood tiger moth"!

Dark lipped Cepaea nemoralis (on left) and pale-lipped Cepaea hortensis, yeah? No - both are C. nemoralis! See reply to see how they looked a couple of days later.

Lip colour and size is the conventional way to identify the two species, but it does not always work, especially in some regions (Cornwall, UK; Pyrenees, Spain), and depending upon age. There are also a lot of snails labelled "C. hortensis" on #iNaturalist that are more likely C. nemoralis. #snails #snail #cepaea
