Historian of emotions, gender, visual & material culture, researching ❤️ and 💔. Author: The Game of Love in Georgian England (OUP, 2019). Vice Chancellor's Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University.
It also aims to promote good mental health and wellbeing following romantic heartbreak in the present day, and will involve some exciting collaborations with local galleries, mental health charities, poets, and artists specialising in emotions, health, and the body
The project approaches romantic heartbreak as a distinctive form of extreme grief, analysing it as an embodied emotional experience & ascertaining how its distinguishing mental and physical characteristics have changed over time
In the most felicitous mistake of my research career, I was given file 112 instead of file 12 in the archives, and - wondering why I had to sign a special form requesting to view them - ended up with the letters of JANE AUSTEN on my desk
