Historian of emotions, gender, visual & material culture, researching ❤️ and 💔. Author: The Game of Love in Georgian England (OUP, 2019). Vice Chancellor's Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University.
It also aims to promote good mental health and wellbeing following romantic heartbreak in the present day, and will involve some exciting collaborations with local galleries, mental health charities, poets, and artists specialising in emotions, health, and the body
The project approaches romantic heartbreak as a distinctive form of extreme grief, analysing it as an embodied emotional experience & ascertaining how its distinguishing mental and physical characteristics have changed over time
I am so pleased to share the news that I have been awarded an AHRC ECR Research, Development & Engagement Fellowship for 2023-6 for my project After Love: Romantic Heartbreak, Emotions & Embodiment in Britain c. 1750-1900
In the most felicitous mistake of my research career, I was given file 112 instead of file 12 in the archives, and - wondering why I had to sign a special form requesting to view them - ended up with the letters of JANE AUSTEN on my desk
I squealed with excitement when this finally landed on the mat. Congratulations to Sarah Lloyd & Tim Millett on producing the most beautiful volume amidst the pandemic

I have suddenly become very busy recording things that will go out on Valentine’s Day next year, so am having a very romantic festive season. I feel like those presenters wearing woolly jumpers recording Christmas shows in July

If you want to see Mastodon at its best, strongly recommend these options:

Android - Use apps Tusky or Fedilab

iPhone/iPad - Use apps Metatext or Toot!

💻 Computers - Log in through your server's website

Mastodon was designed for websites and third party apps. These are *still* the best ways to use Mastodon!

(Official app exists because new people were only looking for an official app in app stores, and giving up when they didn't find one. You don't need to use it!)

A little disappointed that we're using #AcademicMastodon. #AcademicFedi or #AcademicToots when #Macademia was RIGHT THERE.

Are you an early-stage PhD student? Do you work on British History in the Long C18th? Check out the CFP for our annual ⚡️Lightning Talks ⚡️!

A fantastic way to publicise your research & network with fellow PhDs & academics.

Hybrid: in-person/online papers.
