So, some sad news, I'm back on Windows for my main os.

I spent about 4 days working on #gentoo, and while I expected to have to research some things, it got really bad. Two days was trying to get the encryption to work, and required restarting from scratch as something seemed to go wrong, there was no networking.

The next round I got all the way to trying to set up the windows vm. Boy are some of the guides a mess outside of the handbook. One vm guide has you passing kernel commands to grub without going over them, including giving a cpu specific command without mentioning you may need a different one.

So for now it's back to windows. I don't want to miss out on things with loved ones because this is taking too long, and will instead play around with gentoo more in its own vm.

Good grief has getting this going been an arse.

The setup I've been trying to do doesn't quite match up with the guides others have made (I'm using a dist kernel bin, luks and btrfs). After apparently messing up my first attempt with the network devices not existing after getting the boot going, I nuked it and started fresh.
Using the minimal image this time, and a little more trouble with getting grub to prompt to unlock luks, I finally got a stable booting system.

Now onto installing plasma, weeeee...

So, did the hardware changes, both GPU's are detected.

I'm on #manjaro now, transferring the important stuff from Windows onto other drives. Will be installing #Gentoo from here.

Alright, started the prep for the shift over to #gentoo

I've exported extension data where I can, I've found browsers get a little wonky when you try to copy profiles at times.

From here I'll be loading up Manjaro on a live usb, and backup Windows stuff onto other storage devices.

So, planning on trying to shift my main OS to Linux.

Gonna go back to one I used to run over a decade ago now, called [Gentoo](https://www.gentoo.org). Besides having prior experience with it, I like the amount of control and flexibility I get with it. My next choice would probably have been [Arch](https://archlinux.org). [Manjaro](https://manjaro.org) was another contender, but they've... had [issues](https://manjarno.snorlax.sh).

I do also intend to passthrough a GPU and run a Windows vm for games. Looking at the specs, I expect to lose about 1 frame with the PCI lanes dropping to x8 speeds due to having dual GPU's in there. Main worries currently is the audio, apparently that's pretty rough in this kinda setup.

Been playing with setting Gentoo up in a vm to test setting up, even got a local ebuild for [Obsidian](https://obsidian.md) set up, so I plan to start switching soon.

I'll post about my progress while I go, for now, here's a image of the vm.
