I am an engineer and have wandered through several industries. I thought I was nearing the end of my career, but now I think maybe I was just bored. Not bored anymore.

I have no idea what I’m doing here. I guess we will find out together.
@mike I bet none of them really know. I don’t know about gamers, but I have friends who did a great job of acting like bad bros until their gitlab portfolio spoke on its own and they can “come out” as female and finally attend things like security conferences in person. I hope that’s not true these days, but probably still is
@ariegoldshlager i agree. For myself, I am finding that I use twitter and mastodon very differently. I think mastodon is a place for conversation, and twitter is for sound bites. I don’t find many reasons to post on either platform, but there is a place for both in my life. I do appreciate the general sense of sanity I find here
@XanIndigo I dunno… my neighbor’s kid was bored one day and connected my roomba to his playstation controller and made a remote controlled car. I think making your own robot is just a few steps past that. I think what we really need is more bored (well fed and cared for) kids
@ScottSoCal well done!!! I have kept several pieces of furniture I made because I couldn’t afford a custom thing or couldn’t find the perfect thing. Yes, they’ve been demoted to less prominent positions over the years, but I love them all the more for that memory of creativity and problem solving. But yours actually looks really good!
@chrismarquardt @Divorytaur @cmconseils thank you for pointing that out! Knowing that doesn’t take away from the beauty of the video, though

@angiebaby and even then, we would probably frame it as the parents’ fault for letting the kids cross the street

I feel like the crowd here might be able to help me answer an idle question. Around 2015 or so, I met two of the most entertaining Max Planck institute researchers while on a Nat Geo cruise in the Galapagos. They were completing sleep studies on frigate birds, catching and re-catching the birds to find out if and how they sleep while flying 1000s of miles.

Could anyone help me find the publication of their study?

@brainwane I like zero. It’s nothing much by itself, but it makes a very reliable friend who can augment any number you wish just by following along at the end. However, if you upset it, it’ll cut you all the way back to nothing or send you off to infinity
@AnneTheWriter @scrumble_eggs but usually, I’m setting it lower or opening a window. We women at our peak can run a little hot
