Here's another stately home on Clinton Street in Watertown, the Emma Flower Taylor mansion. Presented to his daughter Emma by her father, NY governor Roswell Flower in the 1890s, it's constructed of sandstone that was cut on site.
Winter in Watertown NY: happened to go down Clinton Street where mostly all the homes are palatial relics of a bygone era. This Italianate beauty seemed particularly picturesque in the snow. I have other photos too, will share them individually in upcoming days because I'm sure everyone needs a break from the pics of my old car 😄
For those keeping score at home, we got another foot of snow last night...the Ghetto Cruiser bears silent witness. The sun made one of its typically brief winter appearances before another system arrived with more snow. The pattern shifts this weekend when snows end with overnight temps around -15F.
When in Memphis don't miss the National Civil Rights Museum, an expansion of the fateful Lorraine Motel. It's a powerful experience, well worth the trip--go if you can.
#MLK #MLKdayA few days ago I shared a 1980s pic from the Brooklyn waterfront featuring my '75 Chevy (the Ghetto Cruiser.) Fast forward nearly 40 years and here it is today, up in northern NY just as a snow squall was starting. Near-whiteout conditions soon followed (pic 2.)
Barstow, California (2012)
Not a whiteout, but getting close. The lake effect snow machine is getting geared up in NY's North Country, with more expected next week.
Recent demolition exposed these ghost signs to daylight for the first time in decades. Judging by the font I'd say they date to the 1930s. With virtually all photography of the era in monochrome there's a certain thrill to seeing something like this. Dearborn, Michigan, April 2024.
Here's a scene that's changed over the decades: one of the industrial backstreets on the
#Brooklyn waterfront not far from the Brooklyn Bridge about 1987. That's my car there next to the no parking sign btw, a '75 Chevy nicknamed the "Ghetto Cruiser." The area is more genteel now.
