@robla is my primary Fediverse account. I don't check this account very much, and only post here when I forget that I don't want to post here. I may set this up this account to redirect to @robla again, but I like being able to log into this server.
A deep link to the 70-second mark of some reasonably clear audio demonstrating "Stevie Nicks" singing "Imaginary Lover", which makes the comparison clear: https://youtu.be/ckDlGYU4MUQ?t=70
Atlanta Rhythm Section vs. Stevie Nicks - Imaginary Lover

Atlanta Rhythm Section's "Imaginary Lover" sounds insanely similar to a Stevie Nicks song when sped up just slightly. I'm late to the party, since Rolling Stone reported on this in 1978, and Stevie Nicks tricked Christine McVie by including it in a demo tape for their upcoming album "Tusk": https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/nicks-coat-gets-nicked-198353/#ixzz2fABiy6ki #DooDooRadio #FleetwoodMac #StevieNicks #ChristineMcVie
Nicks’ Coat Gets Nicked

Atlanta Rhythm Section "Imaginary Lover" sounds like Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks; she was upset after losing an antique jacket.

Just saw an article where someone said they had a daily goal of posting to LinkedIn. So that made me feel better about my life

The "effective altruism" and "effective accelerationism" ideologies that have been cropping up in AI debates are just a thin veneer over the typical blend of Silicon Valley techno-utopianism, inflated egos, and greed. Let's try something else.

Effective obfuscation

Silicon Valley's "effective altruism" and "effective accelerationism" only give a thin philosophical veneer to the industry's same old impulses.

It would seem that #Republicans are locked in the past, in the glory days of #JohnBoehner and #PaulRyan, when they were winning big, important elections. It's the same past that #Democrats were locked in circa 1983 (40 years ago; see <https://medium.com/@robla/carter-populism-trump-b74df78707e9>) during the days of #CarlAlbert and #TipONeill . If the 40-year pattern continues, just how well will the very weak candidate the Republicans put forward when he (or she) tries to make an issue of the incumbent's age?
Jimmy Carter, populism and Donald Trump – Rob Lanphier – Medium

Revisiting my 2016 comparison of Jimmy Carter to Donald Trump, and why this is good for 2020, and how we make sure this never happens again…

The Center for Election Science is looking for an Executive Director (or rather "CEO" is what they're calling it now). It's a non-profit that could use some diversity in its upper ranks. @brainwane : I'm especially interested in what you think that "#CES" (or #C4ES) should do, but really many of my #SF -based friends would probably be good choices https://electionscience.org/about/careers-and-board/ #Electorama #electowiki #nonprofit #electoralreform #California #CA #SFBay #SanFrancisco #ChicoCA #CovinaCA #Covina
I'm in the process of migrating to https://sfba.social ( account: https://sfba.social/@robla ). Wish me luck!

It would seem I neglected to post something to #DailyKos a couple of years ago. Still seems relevant:

Flyover country

I’ve never been to Ripon, Wisconsin. But my parents and my brother started a tire recycling outfit called “Rebound Rubber Recycling” near Ripon in 1991. I was in college (in Idaho) at the time, but my family moved to Dodge County, Wisconsin, and lived...
