@naunihal a thank you for this thread. You've crystallized so many of my own swirling thoughts during this process.

This thread by @naunihal outlines so well many of my own thoughts so far as I've been trying to transition to mastodon. (I still haven't figured out how to properly approximate a QT, so here's a link)

TLDR: Mastodon is very white, male, status quo, global north, and designed in a way to limit its potential for use in social movements.

Mastodon feels very different from Twitter, deliberately. It is truly like Live Journal. It is about people who are happy with their social circle and who think of virality and discoverability as a problem. They just want to communicate with the people they know, and limit other things. Ironically, it is more like a private gathering than a public space.

Had an electrician come by to fix a fan. He fixed it up, then handed me the invoice and some reading material he said everyone needed.

Spoiler alert: the Catholics don't make out to well...

#Introduction (2nd try)

Hi all,

I am an #economist at @epi in Washington. I focus on economic #policy, especially in the #labor market. Previously I've worked at @ceprdc and WCEG. I received a PhD in #economics from #LSE in 1993.

I'm interested in the causes and consquences of wage and income inequality in the US.

I'm also interested in international comparisons of labor market institutions and outcomes.

I'm still getting up to speed here, but I'm feeling pretty good about the future.

@taylorlorenz @futurebird Really great comments. The reasoning for the against position, at least as articulated in the previous comments, seems very short-sighted. Hopefully there will be some movement on this which will surely lead to wider adoption of Mastodon.

@epopp What I've missed and have had to go back to Twitter for is live-tweeted events (like Zelenskyy's speech the other night or the Lake trial).
