On a journey to get reacquainted with my creativity!

I like to make: games (digital and non-digital), puzzles, and interactive fiction

@vonxylofon right, the merits of able-bodied, average people is what they really seem to value.

@joepie91 @grammargirl it's just so disappointing! The world we could have if only people tried a little harder...

Oh, I saw your display name! I said "processor cycles" in my post but what I really wanted to say was "spoons"! We talk about spoons a lot in my house lol

@godotengine I'm a simple man. I see mechs and I have to click the link.

@grammargirl the team I'm on has put accessibility as our number one priority for years now. We think it's the right thing to do, in general, but especially because we maintain a public university website!

It is so surprising to me when I meet other web developers and I mention that such-and-such new trend/feature wouldn't be accessible and they say "so?"

Or when I mention spending time with our technical writers to make the copy on our forms easy to understand and they say "why?"

Clear instructions don't only benefit 80 year olds, or people with limited comprehension, it just saves your brain a few processor cycles.

Given how much of our lives are managed by web apps, I think everyone's lives would be happier if companies and project managers were mindful of basic user experience issues when scoping out the budget for these things.

DAY 1 - Intro (Fandom Snowflake Challenge)

I found this cool hashtag/challenge and I have been wanting to post more on mastodon, and really just be more open/social in general.

I like making games, digital experiences, puzzles - that kind of thing! It has been years since I've gotten to seriously work on anything though, because most of my free time is spent as a caregiver. Professionally I am a web developer!

In addition to that, I'm a dad and I am affianced. I love pokemon, sherlock holmes, building legos and gundam models (gunpla), and reading (mostly fantasy novels, occasionally scifi).

Lately, life has been too busy for digital game making unfortunately. So I've fallen back to an old fascination: puzzles!

I've always enjoyed making medium-easy logic puzzles, stuff for people who are puzzle curious but think they will be bad at them.

I've got a pretty good beginner meta-puzzle I've been working on for a few days. Feels good to have a project again.

@joepie91 even in magic forums, where the name of the game is gatekeeping knowledge so that layman don't catch on - there is still a way to be helpful: "well if you can't figure that one out on your own, maybe try reading Bobo's" or "Pick up Tarbell volume 1 and pay attention to Lesson 5, then come back"

Both of these are, in the digital age, kind of rude, you're essentially telling someone to read a book for the answer to their question, or worse to gain an understanding of why they don't know the answer to their question. It definitely gives the expert a feeling of superiority, but it also provides direction to further someone's interest in the hobby.

@ferrix I *gasped* when I read the description! That's so cool and useful, I *hate* when I can't paste. I told my fiancee and she had a big reaction too "omg it's such a pain when I can't paste a verification code or something"
@SnowflakeChallenge if I'm just now discovering this - should I shotgun the previous 4 days or just start fresh with the latest one?
@CareLevelZero it stops being a void if there's at least one person!
