Inline skating the mean streets of NYC since 1993 and still alive to kvetch about it.

During the day, webmaster for some scientists, Java netCDF dataviz and cartography coder.

Otherwise, a Jack Methodist, somewhere left of center and (sigh) a recovering Idahoan.

Plus various experiences and opinions of no merit.

@arstechnica Noting, FWIW, that the header graphic is from NASA/GSFC/SVS's annual animation of NASA/GISS/GISTEMP temp anomaly data. Now I'm trying to figure out what time averaging period it's from.
@bikepedantic.bsky.social Wow, my hometown, where I biked damn near everywhere when I was a kid, scored a… 19. And frankly, it deserves it. A couple major roads have decent bikelanes, but other than that, the only protected place to ride (or skate) is a riverside greenway.
@edsuom Now you also have a second monitor alongside showing scrolling server logs as AI bots scrape your website for input to turn into slop.
@danielmunoz @tuomas_h Don't get me started about iPhoto and the Photos app. Esp. having to help my aged mom who used iPhoto a lot.
@jgordon I have some shirts like that.
@femme_mal @dangillmor Also check your filter to see what contexts it's being applied to. None of them are checked by default.
@viq @dangillmor I think this is pretty much the way do it. I have three separate filters, but each has multiple hashtags in it because I get very tired of seeing categories of stuff in my feed. And even more tired of it if I decide to peruse the Trending feed.
Just finished a thick science fiction novel. Went to enter it into my reading list, and "WTF do you mean I read this five years ago?" I have absolutely zero memory of having read "Project Hail Mary" in summer 2021.
@Andres4NY My building had to have major work done 5-6 years ago with re-piping ALL of the gas lines. Would have been opportune for Verizon to come in and do their thing, too. But apparently not.
