if you want to make a list or host a panel that includes the whole spectrum of people who aren't men, that's totally cool! just for god's sake don't call it "women in [x]"

and PLEASE avoid those "clever" terms like women*, i am begging you

p.s. maybe no one's told you this but you are totally free and welcome to highlight exceptional people who aren't men all 12 months of the year!

I've been experimenting with GPTZero, which claims to be able to identify whether text was produced by an LLM or a human.

Everything I know about how LLMs work and how humans produce language (I know a non-trivial amount about both, given my background in computational linguistics and psycholinguistics) tells me that you will never, ever be able to build something that can reliably distinguish between the two. And sure enough, GPTZero fails miserably. So many false positives.

This argues that - because of the "perils of a public good in private hands" - not just discussion should move from twitter to mastodon, scholarly institutions should now also create instances in the fediverse that make publicly available: papers, data & code.

It's wild how computer programming went from exclusively women's work to "we're not sexist we just don't think women are interested in it" in like 40 years
As a distributed systems researcher, I’d like to thank the House of Representatives for demonstrating that leader election protocols can’t be guaranteed to terminate.
SCHREEUW!
Wat er in de wereld gebeurt is f*cking eng!

Although cis people pretend it's an open, democratic discussion of current events, "the transgender debate" is actually cis people discussing with themselves where they will draw the line between permitting trans people to exist and putting us into prisons and killing us.

The transgender debate is the oppressor's discourse regarding what level of genocide is acceptable to them.

The op-ed functions to create the appearance of a “debate” on a more or less settled issue. And this is a powerful function, bolstered by its placement in the NYT. Through this, it can serve as a “Potemkin citation,” providing a seemingly credible reference in support of bad privacy laws and platforms. 3/
